I recently signed up due to my interest in the M&P line and owning two 5" Longslide models. I retired (again) in Sept. 2008 and my interest in range shooting returned after a 25 year leave, due to family & job requirments=zero time.
I tried many models in late'08 & most of 2009, when I happened to see an M&P9 L in the showcase as I was leaving a large gun store. After trying it I immediately liked it and, walked out with it. After running 1200+ rounds thru it, I ordered the 40 Pro 5", since none of the 4 stores had it in stock. (They carry the 4.25" barrel model, but never the 5" Pro.) I could not determine why S&W did not simply offer an M&P40 Longslide with 3 dot sights AKA the 9 version. Now to decide which one will go to Front Sight in the Fall. I really like these pistols, and wish I had landed them a year earlier.
Enjoy your M&P's and stay safe.
