Just joined the site and look forward to reading all the good info here. Just picked up a 1006 10mm in mint like condition. I have never owned a 10mm so any suggestions on loads would be helpful.

Thanks,
Craig

Welcome from NW Georgia.... The 3rd gen Smiths are great pisotols and you your next couple of generations of heirs will enjoy it! I will assume you have taken a basic handgun safety course and practice safe gun handling so the best advice I have is to practice, practice, practice!

Welcome from Austin, Texas! I too recently bought a S&W 10mm. The guys and gals here are very helpful and knowledgeable. In not a reloader yet so I can't help you there.

Welcome!!!

My only 10mm is a Smith 1076 and it's an absolute dream to shoot. I haven't had any issues with either the "low power" store bought stuff or the hotter self-defense "true" 10mm rounds in mine.

Shoot it and shoot it lots.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I do have lots of shooting experience. Use to shoot competitive combat back in the '80s and a lot of reloading. Currently have a CCW and carry a 642. Looking forward to sharing and reading what you all have to say. Perhaps someone could explain what 3rd generation is exactly.

regards, Craig

Welcome here from CA. There is lots of reloading information in the reloading section for this caliber. I have a 1006 as well, Enjoy it!

I'll say it, post a pic or it didn't happen.

The first generation Smith and Wesson semi-autos came out in the 50's and are typically a two-digit model number, such as the models 39 and 59. The second generation was introduced around the early 80's if I recall correctly. They typically have a three-digit model number. The third generation was introduced in the early 90's and usually has a four-digit model number, such as your 1006. There were some "value line" third generation guns that had three-digit model numbers, however.

427mach1, thanks for that it helps to understand the terms used. Also love that 427 mach1, very cool in need.

Welcome from Canada also. The far North and sometimes Cold Place. We Love our Smiths as well.

A big welcome from Illinois Craig!
The 1006 tends to be omnivorous, it will eat the light "-P" FBI stuff or the full throttle troll slayer stuff. My favorite load is the Winchester 175gr. Silvertip, its not as hot as the Doubletap stuff but it gets the job done!
Start reading around the forum, lots if good information and some great stories here too! Dale

Welcome from the Buckeye state Craig, by thevway love the 10mm to shoot real eye opener when people in next lane at range get wide eyed!!
