Welcome to the FORUM! My 1st. 44 Magnum came to me last November. It is a 6" 29-3. I am now getting to where my hand loads are enjoyable to shoot. I use MAX .44 Special data in magnum cases. Enjoy your 629! Bob

Welcome! I have resisted the .44 . I have too many cartridge types to stock already. Most of my wheel guns are of the .38 & .357 variety. Be warned Smith and Wesson Revolvers are additive. Heck so are the Smith autos, as well as Rugers, Colts, even Glocks.

Hi all I just bought my first wheel gun. A 629-6 with a 6 1/2 barrel. Now it is time to do a lot of reading here;)

Welcome from Kansas! I have the 629-6 with 6" barrel. It loves to shoot 200 grain HSM cowboy action cartridges. To me The Recoil feels less than a 44 special. Enjoy!

Welcome from Louisiana.

Since you decided to start off with a 629, I would suggest that you look hard at learning how to reload. That way you can start off with lighter loads and then work your way up to the more powerful stuff. Because if you aren't used to them, full on 44 Mag loads are a bit of a handful to someone not used to them and can easily cause you to develop bad habits such as flinching or snatching at the trigger. Also, it makes paying for you ammo easier too as you can easily load for half the price per round or even less.
