New Model 10

I would be interested to hear comments from anyone who has a newest Model 10.

However, I would prefer we don't discuss MIM or IL. I understand that many feel strongly about it, but I'm aware of them, have my own opinion on those features, and don't really need to hear any more about them. What I'm interested in is accuracy, fit and finish, other grips or mods and how you feel they compare with previous models.

The only complaint that I really have with the new Model 10 is the lack of a square butt, which just seems natural for a 4" HB Model 10. However, with a set of Ahrend's combat finger groove, it seems to me that this new M10 might be a pretty handy revolver. I am very fond of all the 4" HB semi-lug, fixed sight, K/L models that have come and gone that have sort of spun off the M10 design, in particular the 13, 65 and most recently the 619, which I really can't figure why S&W dropped.

Anyone out there have a new one? Like it, love it, hate it? What's your favorite fodder?

And lastly, ever thought about converting it to 9mm (I had to throw that in there for you 547 lovers)?

In the Boston area, a new Model 10 could be purchased for around $600.00 US. A used one could go between 300.00-500.00 depending on condition and production date.

Don't know anything about gun purchasing or laws in Germany, but if your going to be using it a lot, why not wait and find what you really want.

Hogue also makes nice "conversion" grips for K-frame round butts.

That's affirmative on the conversion grips. Furthermore, nobody makes SB-RB conversion grips. That involves grinding, rebluing, doing something about the strain screw, and hoping the serial number is still around. While I once had a 547 4" HB that seemed to work pretty well with SB and some kind or another of Pachmayrs, I generally find that RB is much better than SB, in K frame. This is an individual thing, obviously dependent on hand size. If YOU know that an SB is right, remember that grips are available. If you don't know, be glad that S&W finally went back to RB.

You hit the nail square on the head; ownership laws here are draconian; was thinking more when I return to the states. I can own only four handguns and am at that limit and am about to trade one away and have a choice of three S&Ws, an older M10, an M65 and an M547, all priced pretty reasonably. The 547 is what I'm hoping for. When you hear what I am trading, you'll scream; a Model 1917. The reason why? The BATF will not allow it back in the US since it is classified as military surplus. I didn't think it would apply when I found it, but checked into it, and there you have it. Saddest thing I've ever heard, but don't want to have to sacrifice it like so many have had to do in the past.
