I just had a look at it on the S&W website, very nice gun.
Nothing wrong with the classics, I have the model 27-9 and couldn't be happier with it.

Too much $ when I can (and did) buy a model 15 in nice shape for $500-550 locally. They aren't rare enough to charge the big bucks for repro's yet...
The new Model 15 looks nice and I like it enough, but it's a lot different than the real classics. Heavy barrel instead of tapered, shrouded ejector rod, etc... I'ts more like a .38Spl version of a Model 19. When I asked a local dealer recently they told me they aren't available yet.

That's the way I look at it too. My early 80's Model 15 doesn't look like that at all. However, to me that's the best looking .38 Special currently being sold.

Last year I picked up a nice (95% or better) Model 15 for less than $300.00. I bought it and gave it to my son for a house gun. They are EXCELLENT for the purpose.
I favor the FBI load or if you don't mind using your reloads for self protection, then a dbl ended wadcutter at about 900 fps will certainly "do the deed"...

5.3 grains of Unique for the 158 grain Lead SWCHP/SWC and 5.0 grains of Unique for the 148 grain double ended wadcutter.

I also love how S&W has made the Model 10-14 into a "Classic Series" revolver.......I had heard they stopped regular production of these years ago, but few people are going to pay $700 for a "Classic" Model 10 with MIM and IL when you can still get the holster worn security trade in 10-8's and 10-10's for $2-300.
I think S&W has made more than a couple M&P - Model 10's over the years, no need for a repro just yet

Nothing wrong with the new classic's, thet are very well made and are great shooter's, I own a few in N frame and like em. The older M-15's are not hard to find and are still reasonably priced, why not treat yourself to an older one, nothing say's smooth like a well used 15.

I'm going to do both. What I really like is how the new Model 15 looks like the old Model 19.

If memory severs me Smith and Wesson only made one 38 special K frame with a shrouded ejector rod and that was the full lug Model 14. They of course made the magnum revolvers with the shrouded rod. So if this is right, this would be the first K frame 38 special with a shrouded ejector rod. Not just a classic but a whole new style of 38 special K frame.

As the matter of fact the models 14-5, 14-6 and 14-7 had full underlugs, but there used to be two other models in .38 Special caliber with shrouded ejector rod. They were the model ".38/44 Heavy Duty" and ".38/44 outdoorsman". One of them become model 20 and the other one I don´t remember right now (I belive it was the model 23 but I am not sure).
And now this new modelo 15 have a shroud for te ejector rod too.

I agree with you. This new model 15 reminds me to much the modelo 19, but I Like it looks like a model 19.
I think the model 15 should always (or at least since 1955) look like a model 19.
It should be like a model 19 with step chamber for being a .38 Special Only.
The same way like the Colt Pythontarget .38 spl. looks like a Python .357 Mag. or the old model Trooper .38 looks like a old model Trooper .357. Only with a step chamber for being a .38.
I was wondering if S&W is using the parts of models 19´s they have in stock for making this new model 15.

38/44's were N-frames.

There were about 6000 model 68's made for the California Highway patrol and LAPD; they looked like 66's but were in .38 Special.
I'll have to look at a Classic 15, I always wanted a .38 with a shrouded ejector rod.

I kinda prefer my .38's in .357 or .22lr ,
How about a K22 that looks exactly like the old Model 19 and stainless Model 66 .
As for the "Classic" reproduction Model 10...
I would buy one in blue and SS if they were .22 lr as well.
