New Model 18 is home!!!!

Originally posted by flat top: I am not a collector, but, I can appreciate what they do....should I take a nice gun, that potentially could be a collectable, or a part of someones collection and use it?

Yes, you should.

Don't mean to burst your bubble, BUT...

You have a modern hand ejector...a Model 18, not a Registered Magnum .357.

Sure, it will go up in value, but not enough to where it ain't worth shooting and enjoying it occasionally.

I've seen more than one 5-screw K-22 from 1947 sell for $300-$325 in VERY nice condition.

That's 62 years old. Now, maybe if they were pristine, they would have brought two, three hundred more dollars...big deal.

Is keeping something in a safe for 40 years, and not enjoying it, worth that little amount of money to you? Not to me.

Now, if you had one of those rare .44 Magnums like Doc44's...different story.

You gots to "keep it real".

G Mac; I understand, and most of my buddies are saying "shoot it, use it, and dont worry about it!!!", which is what I do with all my guns anyway. I take pretty good care of my stuff, but, it "is" used! Doc44's stuff is "artwork"! I have never seen such great pieces! His photographic skills are the only thing that transcends his subject matter! Man, can he make them look good!!!! He needs to publish a calender or a coffee table sized book of his work!!! Well, the 18 is going to the range tomorrow. I cleaned it up...checked the chambers for "tight fit"...looks like its good to go. Now we shall se if it shoots as good as it looks!

I bet it will.

Did it come with an S&W sight adjusting tool (screwdriver)?

Sights may need minor adjustment. Perhaps not.

If you take care of that gun, no reason it still won't look sweet after many, many rounds!

K-frame .22's are rock-solid!

Chris; Patience to find the right one, and tenacity to get the "deal" done...thats all it takes! Dont be afraid to walk away from a price that is out of the ball park, and a seller that cant face reality. Before you buy, you can count on most on this forum to help you get a fair deal, research the numbers, and give honest appraisal........They helped me immensely when I was considering the gun I bought! Good luck!
