Hello,

I have recently taken delivery of a new Model 19-9 Classic revolver. So to say the least, I am disappointed with the quality. On opening the box I discovered the following issues.

1) Poor bluing. On the frame in two places the bluing is missing and has a matt finish similar to the top strap is present. The bluing overall seems blotchy.
2) Scratches in several places including frame, barrel and trigger guard.
3) A slither of silver steel is protruding on either side of the front sight.
4) When the hammer is pulled back for single action it becomes stiff and an unusual in the last section of travel before it locks in.
5) The pistol grip screw head slot is damaged, bent and burred.

Has anyone had similar issues and how was warranty handled?

Thanks,

Do S&W pre-test newly manufactured pistols before being boxed for sale as a quality and safety check?

Sadly, the end consumer is now the "quality and safety check".

The resistance you're feeling at the end of single action is likely due to long ratchets. If you pull the trigger fully back in DA you may also feel some resistance at the end of the pull....or the trigger may stick i to the rear, and not return at all.

Looks like it was put together by "assemblers." Bench gunsmiths have been extinct at the factory for 40 years. Joe

Hi Joe, do you know much about warranty process, will they replace?

Has anyone had similar experiences buying a new S&W?

I have been just reading some horror stories online. Quality assurance processes seem to be lacking as well as final QA.

Hi Armorer951,

It's stiff, extra effort required to lock it in and feels weird. Nothing like my other S&W's.

I think your right. The consumer is the QA resource. I shake my head. When you have such a great brand, why do this.

If you open the cylinder and hold the thumbpiece back and cock the gun in SA, or cycle the DA it will feel OK....if this is a long ratchet problem.

Hi Armorer951,

I performed this in SA and it worked smoothly. Better that cylinder closed a pulling hammer back to full travel SA position.

Does that mean I have the "long ratchet problem" that you describe?

The individual ratchets on the extractor need to be cut by hand to work correctly with the hand that is installed. This should have been done at the factory during assembly.
If the ratchets are oversize, the hand gets trapped in the hand slot during the final phase of the trigger pull.
