What angle is the forcing cone on a model 29 cut at?

I just bought a new 29-10 and it swallows the brownells plug gauge by about 1/8 of an inch.

It really doesn't matter what the angle is, the critical measurement is the outer mouth of the forcing cone.
That's what the gage is measuring, mouth diameter, not the angle or depth of the cone.

If the barrel is swallowing the gage the barrel is defective, unless S&W has also lowered the spec for that too.

I have two Ruger .44's that both swallow the forcing cone gauge. They are only for cowboy shooting, so never bothered with it. They seem to shoot ok. I would be upset if it were a Smith and probably send the gun back. I have never gauged a Smith that the forcing cone went into the barrel farther than it was supposed to. Call Smith for their assessment.
