What parts of the original S&W New Model #3 are interchangeable with the modern Navy Arms New Model Russian in 44 Russian or the Uberti New Model #3? Specifically, would the barrel portion and the cylinder by interchangeable? I'm thinking of purchasing an old beater New Model #3 where the barrel is thrashed, the cylinder is not so great, and the ejector needs replacing. Could I get modern parts to repair it?

I hope you don't mind me making an unsolicited sales pitch, but I have a top break barrel for a #3 or late DA in .38-44 target listed on the classifieds page. Not sure if it would fit, but it's in very good shape, and would be perfect for a project mated with a new cylinder in .38 Special.
.38-44 barrel

Also, Jim Supica (Old Town Station and Armchair Gunshows and co-auther of SCSW) has 2 complete barrel-cylinder assemblies for NM #3's listed in the latest dispatch. I think they were listed at $650 each. I have no horse in this race, just passing on good information.

Thanks for that info. I'll have to think on which route to go with this whole thing. I haven't bought the beater yet, but am afraid that the rest of the internal components in the main frame may be well worn as well.

I was just on David Chicoines website and one of the pieces he shows to reflect his work is a modern Uberti 44 Russian cylinder that he fitted to an orginal Russian. Maybe he can help in your quest.

That is good info, exactly what I was looking for. I like to shoot my old guns, but would prefer to safeguard the original cylinder and use a modern reproduction cylinder instead.

Can anyone tell me how to get a hold of this David Chicoines ?
Have any of you actually tried to use uberti parts on an original nm3?

Surely to goodness Dave Chicoine's contact information is on his web site mentioned above.

And if he's as good as his daddy-------he's GOOD!!

Ralph Tremaine

I Google and all I get are his books for sale from 3rd parties. I can't find his website

I am curious about original posters question. Have any of you actually tried to use uberti parts on originals yourself?
