From the pictures the shape of the insert doesn’t look factory to me... too long and thin, IMHO. Now that I think about, I don’t remember ever seeing a non-adjustable rear sight with a red ramp front on a Model 60. Then again, with S&W, “Never say never!”

I almost bought the adjustable rear sight model 60 on Gunbroker. But I saw it as a waste and clumsy on a Model 60. Strictly for collectors. No red ramp on it either. Really doesn't matter to me if the red ramp is factory. I just think it's cool
Thing is, S&W is famous for doing "limited run" items for various wholesalers. So really can't say for sure where it came from.

I'll definitely give a range report when I get it. Not crazy about the grips so they need to be changed.

As we used to say in the ‘60s, “Everybody to his own kick.” I feel like the 3” underlug barrel and adjustable sights make the 60-4 a lot more versatile while still “carry-able”. Of course there were enough of them made that at least some of us carry and shoot them.
All of this is not to say that your new find isn’t a great one. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it for EDC and feel well armed. With the groove in the rear of the stainless frame for a rear sight, I’m betting that red ramp will be a great asset regardless of it origin.

This is not mine but exactly like it grips n all. Mine is home in the safe and I'm at work.Duane...can you post a pic? I am curious.
I'm going to try putting a Hogue monogrip on it to see if it helps with the recoil a little.

As to the 2" Model 60 Chiefs Special Target revolvers, don't knock them until you tried them
I carried this one in my ankle rig from 1986 when they were introduced until 1996 when the J-magnum came out. The red ramp in this one is not factory
It will astonish you how accurate a 2" revolver can be once you have better sights on it

Not really knocking them. Just not what I needed for a "pocket gun". That rear sight can get hung up too easily on clothing. And my old eyes (I am 70) are limited for accuracy
Only accuracy I need is barrel-against-the-head accurate.

I am surprised at how accurate this little gun is with .38s and .357s. It is not as accurate as my Dan Wesson (I've taken rabbit heads at 10 yes without thinking about it) but it will be a good backup for when I don't dress enough to cover the DW.
