New MP15OR yepyep

IM going to hold off on the bipod. This is a home defense weapon, I have to keep reminding myself im not any kind of operator or mall ninja. Im going to zero the 3x at 50/200 and the canted iron sights @ 25. have 2 HD mags loaded w 44 gr hollowpoint varmint ammo, low penetration and lower risk of pass thru i hear. Hope i never have to use it but dont want to be worrying (excessively) about collateral damage in case i have to.

I thought it might based on what everyone was saying. I took it off S&W's site though. This is a pic from their M&P15OR page. Maybe they've changed.

Yeah, it does look like that larger hole will take a QD swivel. The smaller threaded hole will probably take a permanent attachment like this:
GrovTec Sling Swivel Stud Pack 1/8 Machine Screw Steel Package of 12

It's a nice gas block. I've never seen one like that. I don't like slings so, a QD point like this would be fantastic for those few times I have to use a sling.

I have thought that myself about the small holeit would probably work. I discovered that the larger one was a quick detach mount after seeing a review on youtube or something. I had bought my MP15OR sometime during Obama's first term. I think it was about $700 after a $200 rebate.

It looks like there may be a set screw up in the smaller hole, I don't know I have never tried to remove the gas block on the MP15 OR.

That is exactly like the gas block on my MP15 OR.

Ditto...before I took it off and put on an adjustable gas block, which, incidentally, has a QD mount. I asked S&W what the threaded hole was for and their tech guy had "no idea." Any thoughts anyone?

PS: Removal of the gas block -- it's a B#^^*h

Probably just a threaded hole for a sling swivel stud.
