A post by sigp220.45 about his purchase of a Ruger Standard Auto got me thinking about how many of us will stray from S&W's and go back and buy a handgun or rifle from our past that we either had or always wanted. I know I have and will continue to indulge in doing that. While I have any number of S&W 22's and love to shoot them I recently bought a couple of Hi-Standard Sentinals just because I always wanted one as a kid. How many of you have done something similar?

I bought a Stoeger Luger 22lr.
It isn't the most reliable 22 out there, though it is OK.
I remember seeing them advertised in Popular Mechanics when I was a kid, and I wanted one SOOOOOOO bad.
So when I started building my accumulation (I'm not a collector) the first time I came across one, it got me fired up and I went on the hunt.
Found one for a good price and bought it.
Now if I could just find a little Stevens 410/22 over/under that was affordable....

Joe,

I did just that very thing a couple weeks back. In fact, I had even posted on another thread that was reminiscing about just such purchases a few years ago....

I bought a HK P7 M13 (don't hate me because it is not a S&W) ;)

This sure happened to me when I lost my job in 2009 and ending up having to sell a boatload of guns and ammunition. I managed to replace the Colt HBAR I sold and the matching number pre-war Luger I had. The Luger got replaced with a chromed plated but matching number except for the magazine Luger that serves me as a shooter. Hopefully the Luger I sold is in a good home of a collector who treasures it. Because of the passage of time and changing interests I probably won't try to replace a number of the guns I sold back then.

One gun I acquired that was reminiscent of my childhood was a Remington 513T target rifle like I used to fire at my school rifle club. CMP was selling them without rear sights or magazines, but I managed to acquire those. I have acquired 2 Model 41's to replace one I sold off years ago.

I remembered shooting an awesome revolver back in the early 70's. A bunch of us were up in northern Minnesota, got around to shooting cans, I didn't have a gun with me. My then boyfriend asked his friend to let me shoot his big revolver. Most of the guys said, she can't shoot that, its a 41 mag. My boyfriend told him to let me try. 6 shots, 5 holes in cans and me with a big smile and a bunch of guys that shut up.

Close to 40 years later I got to thinking about that day, I knew it couldn't have been a Ruger so had to be a S&W. Sent me on a quest for a S&W Model 57 41 mag. Now I have 2 of them.

I have a number of pistols from different manufacturers that I had shot over the years and then finally bought when my finances were in better shape ..
Would like to find a match 22 rifle I shot on a USAF Rifle Team while in Alaska .. but have never seen one .. that was 50 years ago and they had considerable age then ..

I can still remember my dad telling me how when he was young he would make the trip from the farm to town with his dad. In the window of the hardware store there was a double barrel 410. I remember him telling me how bad he wanted that shotgun. I can't remember the year but not long after I got out of school my mother and I chipped in together and bought him a Stevens side by side 410 for Christmas. I can still see the grin on his face when he opened that package.

My first experience shooting 45acp was with a P90. I've had money set aside for months to lay down on a nice Ruger P90 that suits me. Still waiting to pounce. One day...

I remember seeing the Whitney Wolverine being advertised in an outer space context. Being just a young lad at the time (mid 1950's), I was never able to get one. About 30 years ago, I saw an original one for sale in a gun shop and sure enough it was one the of the Alco Aluminum Company made aluminium frame models so I bought it. Since then, another company has made a model of the original Whitney Wolverine but it has a polymer frame and I got one of those too. It has meet the same fate as the original Whitney company -- it too, has now gone out of business. The Whitney Wolverine is just a fun gun to shot and one of those who came and went.

New / Old Gun Purchase

If the serial # of your Luger is #2030 and a DWM I once owned it.

While S&W handguns are the mainstay of my collection and have many more of them over others that I own. I never feel any remorse when buying another brand! ;)
Not only do I like Smiths,I like Rugers and Berettas as well! and have CZ's,Makarovs and Walther.
A well rounded managerie!;)

A majority of the handguns in my modest collection are s&W's I also own a couple of Ruger revolvers and a police trade in second generation Glock 17 which is chambered in 9mm.

Do you recall the manufacturer of the match rifle you shot or any characteristics?

I did buy that Berreta 21A Rat Gun.
The first handgun that I shot was an earlier version Flip-Up Barrel Beretta.
