I have recently aquired a like new M & P, 38 spl, 4 inch thin barrel. Serial number is S9823XX. trying to determine approx. manuf. date, and value. Sorry, no pictures available. Thanks, Ken

The S prefix M&Ps were made from 1945-1948. I'd say yours is closer to 48 as it is pretty close to the C prefix changeover. As far as value I know that pictures help but I'm sure someone will be able to help you out with a round about value. Enjoy your new Smith.
