New One Dollar Gold Coins, Godless

I was handed two one dollar gold coins a few days ago and thought, cool. Come to find out there is no, "In God We Trust", on it. I will refuse to take them from now on. I have a photo of the coin but don't have the time to upload it to this post.

Oh well, soon every new bill will not have it on them. Heck why not? My debit card, which is my money, doesn't say in God we trust.

My guess is that the USA flags will not be allowed to be on school grounds or even flown at all. At least they will try and are trying, can't fly the Confederate Flag in places. As soon as the guns are gone you watch and see the "Changes".

Please only comment on the gold coin to avoid getting off topic. I just had to express my internal madness over all that's happening.

I'll give you two dollars for it. Actually, it'd be worth quite a bit of money to collectors!

I can't remember which piece of 1790's coinage had it, but if I remember correctly, this is the first piece of American coinage to have the inscription along the outside edge since that time. Or was it the trade dollar? I know it was one of them, because the writing on the sides of the coin helped to identify any coin that had been "shaved"- where a bit of silver or gold had been taken off of the coin. Yes, people were dishonest in the 1790's, believe it or not.
(I don't have my coin guide book handy at the moment)

However, some bright chap came up with the idea of giving coins a "reeded" edge- you know, all the little ridges, of if any place were flat, you know that the coin was "shaved" and no one would accept it. Smart chap he was, whoever it was, and the process continued pretty much this way until the introduction of the brassoid/pot metal dollars they are trying to get circulating.

Just use the fifty-cent piece and the two-dollar bill for Pete's sake!

Remove "In God We Trust" and ask me what good moral character means....must have to leave that out, too.

I think the whole point of putting it on the edge was it was un-noticeable and that's also where it will likely wear off in circulation.

Doesn't matter . . . anyone who is foolish enough to believe God can be removed from anywhere or anything is only deluding themselves. I suppose you could make it illegal or unfashionable to refer to or make written reference to the sun in the sky, but that doesn't make it go away . . . .

Get a grip. "In God We Trust" is there, as it is on all other coins. Assuming you aren't just paraphrasing a mendacious e-mail, I suggest you actually bother to LOOK at the coins in question. It's there on the edge, so the blind won't confuse it with similar-sized coins, which have reeded edges, and so cheats won't file the coins down for the gold.

Actually, the motto "In God We Trust" is no longer on the edge of the Presidential dollars. Beginning this year, it's now on the obverse, or "heads" of the coin. As for anyone filing the coins down for the "gold", there is absolutely no gold in the Presidential dollars. It's simply a thin gold colored plating that is used to help differentiate the dollar coin from a quarter.

The only place I have ever received a gold dollar coin was out of the stamp machine at the post office, if you give the clerk at Wendys one, it really screws them up,,they dont know what to do with them

You mean minted since 1969. That's when the 40% silver clad halves for circulation were discontinued in favor of the cupro-nickel ones. The 1970 half doesn't count because it wasn't minted for circulation- only for mint sets, as well as the late (started in 1992) proof 90% silver dimes, quarters and halves for sets.

At current prices, those old 40% silver halves (1965-1969) have a melt value @ $2.25. ( 0.1479 troy oz. of silver @$15.15 per troy oz.)
Which is better than a spit in the eye.

I'd rather have pre-64's, but I won't turn down clad halves for fifty-cents each.

Winchester changed hands and started cheapening things, they took the silver out of money and the Fed essentially took over our currency fully, S&W was sold after "The Swede," C.R. Hellstrom passed away, and a lot of other things I can't think of right now. My head hurts thinking about it.
