I need some help here.. I am the new owner of my grandfathers 4516 .45 acp and upon gettingthe gun it was dirty. not from shooting just dirt. So on to the issue I have caused my self:

took apart the pistol and during the cleaning around the trigger assembly I heard a small "click" (nothing Broke) almost like a "tick" really. Cleaned and assembled the gun the trigger is like it is in safe with the decock in either posistion.. no trigger at all.. PUzZlEd!!!

can you help me? I want to show it to POPS all cleaned and readty to go....

Do you have an empty magazine installed? Is the safety/decocker in the up position?

Yep your right works fine. I guess I need to learn the weapon before I make assumptions. Thanks for showing me how foolish I am. LOL

If you don't have the original manual, download the Smith & Wesson manual on their website. One of the features of 3rd generation semi-autos is the mag disconnect feature. With the mag out it prevents the gun shooting. The trigger will feel like what you describe.
S&W 3rd generation semi-autos are among the safest handguns ever made. Reading the manual will enlighten you on this fine weapon.

Howard

I have always liked the 4516. I remember when they first came out a good friend bought one and we shot the daylights out of it. It never malfunctioned once and was a great carry gun for him. Good luck with that gun, it's a real nice .45

I just got a 4516-1, used to be my Dad's. I'm curious about the yellow magazine followers and the legend on the magazine that it's for the 4516-1 "only."

Will the newer 4516 replacement magazines work in it? How about the replacement springs? Have found varying opinions on line.

I don't know about the original 4516 pistols, but new S&W mags will work in the 4516-1 (as well as the 4516-2). HTH
