I just picked up a matt stainless Performance Center 1911 from a local big box retailer. The pistol had wear marks on the outside, so the seller cut the pricing to 1200 plus.I asked if the pistol was used and the answer was no. Got the pistol home and disassembled it. Major carbon buildup, frame and barrel wear marks. In addition, the barrel link pin fell out even thought it had been peened and the link had gouge marks on both sides. I took the gun back and they are sending it off to S&W to send back "as new"
Never had that happen before! Anyone else familiar with this pistol. If the pistol is repaired as new, was the pricing about right?
Thank you for your thoughts

Short of replacing the gun, I don't know how S&W is going to send it back as-new. Did the dealer expand on that? It certainly sounds like it's a used gun, and S&W will not replace a used gun for owner use. I'd keep an eye on that dealer...something doesn't smell right.

As far as the price, $1200 for a NIB PC1911 is a very good price. For a used -- which I think it's safe to say yours is -- it's a good price for street retail and about average for a private sale.

In the future and if the dealer allows it, you can request to break down the gun (or have them do it for you) so you can check out things before purchase. If the dealer doesn't allow it, that may be a red flag and a sign to just walk away.

No real elaboration on how the "as new" would be handled. The store managers take was that the SKU # on the pistol designated new and that maybe the wholesaler had used the pistol. I'm sure S&W will refurbish the pistol for a fee and charge the seller. I will push for the charges to be paid by them, as the pistol was used. We will see how it goes.

You got the gun at a great deal. S&W will take good care of the gun. Let us know what it looks like when it comes back.
