Factory ported barrel/slide and Performance Center sear for a better trigger.

Not sure if the porting is necessary in 9mm but should help with some of the muzzle flip in .40 for sure. The PC sear should be nice for those wanting a nice trigger out of the box. I wonder what the MSRP will be.

Watch the video closely. There appears to me to be a LOT of flash coming out of the ports. Bad in the dark, and maybe not so good if you don't happen to have your shooting glasses on.

I'll look forward to hearing some real-life results, soon hopefully, but at this point I can't see myself buying one of these.

A public service announcement from your friendly neighborhood internet moron.

Pocket carry and barrel porting is bad mmkay....

Can we say barrel obstruction?

Yes I definitely want porting on my defense pistols. I carry ported J frames all the time. Fired from inside my pocket and in complete darkness. Clothes did not catch fire and I was not blinded. I am a big fan of porting as it really helps tame the recoil. Where can I stand in line for one of these new PC shields!

A sign that TEOTWAWKI is at hand..........

Revelations, the anti-Christ and the 12th Imam.... are coming...........

the world has been turned upside down....................

compass's are pointing south............

NOOOOO0000000ooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL

Safety and No-Safety?

How much $$?

Looks like a Top Fuel dragster coming at you with all the flames.

I would like a chance to fire the new Shield back to back with my present Shield to what kind of difference the porting & the new trigger make. Yeah I know, fat chance of that happening. We'll see...

Is this thumb safety only? That would be odd because the full-size ported are NTS only.

I'm betting the video guys deliberately chose flashy ammo because they thought it would look cool.

I definitely want to shoot one.

All the gasses are safely leaking out the cylinder gap before reaching the porting. ;)

I've got a Shield 9 & 40 and see no reason to want anything different. I can see porting on a high performance hunting gun; I just don't see the need on a compact SD pistol. But that's just me.... :-)

Why wouldn't they include night sights on this new Performance Center Shield?

I see they are now offering a regular shield with Tritium Night Sights.

I might spring for the Pef Center version if they included the night sights instead of fiber optic.

I have a plain jane thumb safety shield I bought in Oct 2013. It's bone stock but I would prefer to make the trigger a little better, get rid of the thumb safety and have night sights. That would make the shield perfect for me. But S&W still doesn't have an out of the box option for this. :(

Best I could do is get the no safety, w/ night sights Shield, and install the Apex trigger upgrades I guess.

I could then keep my stock shield as a backup. :D

I'm starting to rethink my earlier comment slamming the door on this version. The vast majority of the scenarios where I might, god forbid, need to use my Shield, would be so close quarters that having my night vision impaired by the flash from ports really wouldn't be much of an issue. Particularly when you add in the fact that, as an old fart, I tend to stay at home at night anyhow.

And while I have defended the 40 Shield as not having a lot more recoil (to me) than a 9, something that makes for faster follow-up shots shouldn't be completely ignored. And I have to admit that the Performance Center model does look pretty cool.

The down side is that I'm betting I'd still end up with an Apex kit and trigger. Still, a cool new toy....

Looks like a great improvement to an already excellent gun.

Will it be available without the safety?

Looks like it got the tarted up Tijuana Buick treatment. Three portholes? Really? Red and green plastic sights? Has the G43 eaten into the Shields market share this badly?

I think the three ports in the slide are carrying on the family tradition for the Performance Center. Their other M&Ps have three slide ports, as do the 1911s, and I don't think the commander version even has a ported barrel. Looks great though.

The sights are tacky though.

The Shield doesn't need a safety, but the safety that comes on them isn't intrusive. It is small and flat enough that it won't be engaged inadvertently, and though I disengage it when holstered, there are times it is sort of nice to be able to flip it on. If it worries anyone, a drop of super glue should assure it won't be accidentally engaged.
