New pistol----range prep?

I agree, the pistol needs cleaned after each range outing. Also gets you more familiar with it. Very light oil in the mag springs doesn't hurt at all.

CLP (CLP is not a brand!), BoreSnake, toothbrush, and a shop rag is all ya need.

Don't confuse CLP with "BreakFree" which hasn't met military specifications in 20 years... FP10 and Slip2000 CLPs do.

Although everything has been said.......
I would disassemble, clean everywhere I could,
etc. as stated.
Clean the mags to insure that NO lube ever
gets transferred onto any ammo rounds.
I would never use WD40 on any gun, nor
allow it in the same room !
Yet, when I lube........
I now only use SBGO
Silver Bullet Gun Oil
Lube, wipe it down, good for longer than
anything I have used in over 50yrs !!!
Silver Bullet Gun Oil
You will never know how well it outperforms
all others......until you try it.

As you can see there are all kinds of ideas about cleaning guns.

Some are right, and the rest are probably right too. I have no idea why you'd panic about oil on shells, you'd just wipe it off. You have to lube cases when you resize them when reloading.

I bet there are at least a million guys who use nothing but WD40 on all their guns. I wouldn't, but that doesn't make it wrong.

I've never worried about getting Hoppes #9 on my guns, my plastics, my wood, my kitchen table, my pants, anything really. I've got a shotgun that's seen Hoppes #9 on every part of it for well over 40 years and it looks like the day it was made. So if anyone tries to tell me #9 is going to damage my wood or plastic parts I can tell you right now I'm gonna laugh about it. :D

Chuck S, I have Break Free CPL----what kind of cpl is recommended? And the BF is good enough, yes?
