Thanks for that link Win712.
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to share my CCW experience in the state of Michigan. I am a retired police detective from California, and was fortunate to survive 30 years. I retired with honor and upon retiring received numerous letters of commendation from the City Council, as well as the mayor. I also was given the priveledge of carrying a concealed weapon....anywhere within the state as long as I remained on this good earth. Sounds good right? I then moved to Michigan and things went down the crapper.
Michigan would't recognize my status as a retired police officer from another state. I took the training course, passed the range qualification and went to the oral board. A permit was issued without the gun free zone restriction and things seemed to be O.K. Six weeks later I received a letter cancelling my permit. I went down to the county administrators office and was told that I did not qualify as a 'retired' police officer in Michigan. The permit was reissued with the gun free zone stipulation attatched. Their reasoning was that I didn't meet the Michigan critera as a police officer.
Yep!! No discussion about it, that was the bottom line. If I didn't like it...then I was told to leave the permit and do without one. Welcome to Michigan USA.It's quite a place.
