Howdy folks, thank you to all those who commented on my post about purchasing some older s&w revolvers. The gentleman had at least 6 for sale- all in very good condition. What was going to be a single purchase turned into two when he told me he didn't want to sell just one. The two I ended up getting both look to be near mint and both have their boxes and paperwork. The snubbie is a model 12-2 in nickel and the other is a model 67 no dash. While they both look new, he did say that the 67 may never have been fired. He was willing to sell them for $450 each if I bought them together. The prices seemed fair to me- what do you think? If anyone knows any further info based on the serial numbers I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

Hey, benalpha. I'd have chosen the 67 too! Nice!
Great catch on both. They make a nice pair.

Your Model 12 dates to 1976-77.
Your Model 67 dates to 1972.
According to the SCSW.

benalpha,
Congratulations. You did very well.

I don't see a nickel model 12 very often and it looks like it's in really nice condition so that's a good find. The model 12 serial # looks like D962711 and dates to 1976-1977. Unless I'm missing something, the box, although period correct, does not match the serial # for the model 12 but do not worry about that because you have a very nice revolver at a good price.

The model 67 looks really nice too. It dates to 1972, the first year of production of the model 67, if I'm reading the numbers correctly out of the SCSW (Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson). I don't recall ever seeing a 67 no dash before so that's another good find. The box for the model 67 is period correct but the end label on the model 67 looks almost too new and the writing too uniform to be original (?) but do not worry about that because, once again, you have a very nice revolver at a good price. A close up of the end label might give a better idea as to the originality of the end label.

John

My comments about the boxes/end labels are in no way meant to be critical of your purchases because I would have probably bought those revolvers at the prices you paid. The comments were purely for educational purposes. There have been discussions on the S&W forum about "fake" end labels on S&W boxes.

I'll chime I too. You got two great .38 specials in excellent condition. The nickel model 12 is especially nice and a highly desirable snub nose revolver. Congratulations.

I would like to find deals like this! What else did he have?

He also had a M28, a 19-4, a 15-3, and a 14. You can see my earlier thread where I list the prices that he had.

now go back and buy the rest like you want to. sell a couple if needed, but get the rest of them. you will both be happier.

:D:D:D:DTwo good buys. The "high" will last a while. The first one always does.

Am I right fellows!

So enjoy it, soak it up, nurse it for as much joy as you can get out of it.

Hey, I am serious here....really am.

In about a week it will have settled down. You'll be okay at first.

Tell him guys, we are not making this stuff up.

In a month or so, after the first few range visits, you will notice a strange itch to check the classified forums again.

By that time it is too late! You have the S&W addiction!

Don't fight it, just try to control it. Post on the forums often. We'll be understanding.:D:D:D

I hope you enjoy your new guns as much as I've enjoyed ribbing you.

Joe

These are my favorite threads.

Forum member finds some pristine examples of Smith & Wessons glory years, and they get passed on to the next generation.

Thanks everyone for looking and for your input! I am interested in what one member said about the boxes perhaps being incorrect/ not matching the pistols. Having very little experience with older boxes and labels, I was hoping someone might have some more info. I can post better pictures of the boxes and labels later, if need be. Thanks!
