My ‘75 colt python 357/6” in blue was the most accurate of all my revolvers in 357 at that time. I wonder if the new one can deliver the same accuracy. I sold my first python to start a business.
With all my revolvers i lube the lock up pin, hand and spur with moly. The hinge and stud too. It smooths it all out.

I’m thinking that since Jayframer has a very early production number, Colt is gonna knock themselves out trying to get it just right so as to keep/get it’s reputation up there. They’d be fools not to. (No one is gonna want to buy a new model Python at ~$1500 MSRP with a rep for shoddy quality.)
Let’s see what Jay framer says when he gets it back.
Seems like the the SA trigger issue Jay mentioned in his first post has been overlooked...

I've never experienced that with a Colt Officers Model Target, Shooting Master, or even a plain ol' New Service or Detective Special.
Sounds like much the same issues with mediocre Diamondbacks, etc. from the 1970s.
How much time does it take to do a full Quality Control check by a qualified individual?
A few minutes?
How much does that person get paid an hour?
Is it too much to expect this as part of the deal?
At this MSRP it's totally unacceptable that there should be any issues, especially given the pure hype surrounding this product.

Thanks for the report. From your review, other comments, and the Colt's website, I'd say Colt's has done a nice job. But why did they see the need to "cheezy" an otherwise beautiful revolver with this. ?

Jay... got to get rid of those 1970s Pachmayer prophylactics. That just does not work, the gun wiggling around back/forth in it....
But I also agree, the plywood Altamonts are a total joke on a 1.5 thousand dollar gun. I am really trying to be open here but what I have seen so far just does not do it for me...

Got to look at one of these two nights ago at LGS. They got in two 6" models and sold one the first day and the other the next. Posting a pic below, which given the better pics already posted seems a bit redundant at this point. Selling for $1,699 and apparently no trouble finding buyers. I was advised that dealer cost was $1,325. I don't know how dealer cost varies from dealer to dealer, but man that seems high. At MSRP that about 11-12% margin. Anyway, it was almost out of the question at $1,499, definitely out at $1,699.
As a consolation I picked up a display model S&W 66-8 from Academy. Regular Academy price $799, clearance price $649, manager gave me another 10% off, plus 5% off with Academy credit card. $612 OTD, or 3 new Pythons after tax.

Once the gun is back from Colt, and if everything is okay, I might spring for one of the high quality repro walnuts.

so sad.... I can't buy one here in Mass...... have to just be happy I hung onto my 6" bright SS King Cobra.... sold my 6" BSS Python when I was offered 3 times more than I pd for it ... But like you Lad ... I'd take a short barrel Python in a NY minute. Going to have to text my bud at Colt now and harass him .... going to check on JayF's gun, see if he has any info on it..I bought a 6" model and it also had chip or chatter marks on the crown. It is also on its way back to Colt. For those who keep score, I paid $1,550 out the door. So that's about $1458 after tax and PICS fee, which I think is fair considering it was just introduced.
Just texted my bud... only issues so far were several getting out with the crown damaged.. but they got that fixed..

As a gear head I have learned not to be in the first delivered of something new. I really had it stuck up my derriere by my new Vette I bought in 05. They tried many times to fix it and I finely in disgust traded in towards a 07 model.
Same with new guns I will let someone else be the unpaid Beta tester. The New Snake gun sounds OK but it is still different than its predecessors. Let someone else have the fun with a defective gun, IF I buy one it is a few months/year off.

Well, reading other Forums, now the Defects are coming out. I was
all excited about getting the New Shootable Reintroduced Python 357Mag.
Guess I'll be spending my Money on the other Guns I'm really interested in,
like a S&W 657 MG 41Rem Mag.

I think Colt is just trying to help people with their accuracy. Isn’t it a major point of accurate shooting to always let the trigger break like glass and have the shot surprise you? I watched the video and I think having a gun that only goes off about half the time would really help accuracy. Because one never knows when it is going to go off after a trigger pull!
Plus you only get 3 or 4 shots per cylinder, so you better make them count!
