OK, Fellas & Gals,

So I got my new DILLON XL650 up, running and cranking BIG TIME now. My problem is two fold. I ran out of ammo boxes (first time in 30+ years) so I have resorted to using 3 pound coffee cans. My other dilemma is getting enough powder and primers.

This press is simply amazing! Not only is it 3 times as fast as my old Dillon Square Deal, but the ammo quality is superb. This is actually the first time in over 30 years I have actually enjoyed reloading. Seriously, prior to me getting the 650 press, reloading was nothing more than a chore and a giant P.I.T.A. - I HATED IT! I am sure the newness will wear off eventually, but I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Dillon XL650 for anyone looking to buy a REALLY GREAT reloading press.

chief38,

Get some big ammo cans or dry boxes, primers and powder are coming back.

You'll be way ahead come the next PANIC, all your work will be done and you just have to SHOOT IT UP.

Unless you have some Class III stuff, the 650 will will keep your TRIGGER FINGER well supplied.:)

P.S. When the NEWNESS THRILL wears off, there's always THE 1050 to look forward to.;)

Moonman,
You'er right - the newness will soon wear off - in about a week when I start Pheasant Hunting. :)

I did look at a 1050 before ordering my 650 and decided it is just overly complicated and more than I will ever need. Unless you have Military cartridges to swage, or your goal is to motorize the sucker or dedicate it to a single caliber only, it really offers no advantage. In fact, I found out that the 1050 only comes with a 1 year Warranty instead of Dillon's NO BS forever Warranty because they consider it a commercial loading machine. Caliber conversions are more than twice the price and changing back & forth is a real project.

I figure that by the time the newness wears off I'll be out of powder & primers (new stock already on order) but at least I will have plenty of ammo to shoot.

MM,
that's where I draw the line! NO casting for me. I once did some casting to make lead soldiers with my Son years ago and that cured me of any future yearnings. I'd rather just pick up the phone and order the stuff.

My problem is I have too many hobby's. Shooting, Smithing, Reloading, Lionel Trains, tinkering with cars, Motorcycling around the Country, blah, blah, blah. Just not enough time!

I began reloading to save money; in fact I could not and did not buy any factory ammo for many years. I enjoyed reloading so much that I considered shooting as only a means to get empty cases!

Over the years my emphasis shifted as I learned that being able to shoot more resulted in my ability to shoot well. So, shooting became the focus and reloading the secondary effort.

Now, with age playing a role, I am returning to my love of reloading as the primary hobby.

Cast bullets for .45 acp are now getting around 10 cents each so I may have to dig out the casting pot.

Agree that there is not enough time. How did we ever work a full time job every week??

Hey Chief! Ma gets coleslaw and tater salad in those small plastic tubs and that's frankly about all I use these days to store my rnd's. Each one will hold a hundred or so depending on the rnd's and they stack real nice and you can label them with those white sticker jobs and date 'em and I keep most of mine in an old camper size fridge. Might look into that.

I don't get their E-blast anymore , but back when Midway used to have sale flyers and they would sell their plastic ammo boxes deemed blems or seconds at a discount if ya bought a case of 10-20 or so. They'd sell a whole case for about a buck per box. They had their full no-break hinge warranty.

Funny , in the several cases I bought in nearly every size , I could never find a noticeable flaw!

And haven't broke a hinge yet either!

Well all I can say is it's good that we by Chock Full of Nuts Coffee in the 3 pound cans! By tomorrow when the can is empty I'll know exactly how many 38 Spl. rounds a can holds! Costco had a sale on it and we bought five 3 lb. cans. Now my Wife is wondering why I like so much coffee all of a sudden!!

AND....... my bullets will SMELL GREAT TOO!

:)
