New revolvers at your LGS?

I, too, see alot of semi-autos. Revolvers are scarce. Even tho all the mags are featuring articles about revolvers there are very few to be seen (or available to buy). The costs are also getting too high..almost to the same price point as semi-autos. I like .38 Specials, but the ammo shortage has really affected their availability. Hope things change.

I have no doubt a typical LGS sells at least a 100 9mm semiautos for every K or L frame 357 revolver. But the revolvers are twice as expensive and probably have a higher profit margin. You would think it would be in both S&W and the LGS best interest to stock a couple of revolvers. Having a few revolvers on display wouldn't hurt their sales of semiautos in any way and could bring in customers that have all the semiautos they want.

The Catch-22 is that if there were K and L frames in gun stores they would sell.

A steel K or L frame makes a perfect bedside/home defense gun, especially those who may not have the inclination to keep up the periodic practice/training required to remain competent with a semi automatic's safe operation. Including, for example, clearing the chamber after dropping the magazine.

Thanks, but I want to see and handle one before I buy.

If you have a Cabelas or Bass Pro nearby, you can buy online and have it shipped to the store. If you decide it's not for you, they'll refund your money and sell it.

There is a new 686 Plus 3" listed at $929.99:

I know I LOVE my 3" 686+ and it's my most-carried these days. For about a year and a half now it's almost my exclusive EDC. A Milt Sparks Summer Special IWB.

From talking to the shops in my area the mindset is to flood the stores with all plastic semi auto and tactile rifles in all colors. When asked if they ever get any new Smith & Wesson revolvers they all say occasionally but they go quick. Each of them claim receiving anything above a j frame snub is like pulling teeth to get from the factory

According to the owner of my LGS, revolvers, new & used, are in demand right now. When they come in, they go out just as quick.

Revolvers I typically see in my LGS's are: Charter Arms, Heritage Arms .22's, an occasional Taurus.
Any decent used S&W or Colt is priced like it was certifiably owned by Elvis.

Very few new or even used for that matter here in my area of Az and the used ones look like their going to need a lot of tlc.

The shop I frequent most frequently usually has a half dozen each of J and L frames in the case, along with a similar number of Ruger DAs, a scattering of Charters and Tauri and the occasional Colt or Kimber. The new guns are usually priced at or under MSRP.

Fair selection of Ruger SAs, Cowboy repros and .22s.

Used stuff is generally either ragged out and overpriced or "you shoulda been here yesterday".

Dealing only with new revolvers, that's my experience working the gun counter at a Bass Pro Shop on Sunday mornings.

My LGS tends to have a discriminating clientele for revolvers, so anything good in the used case departs quickly and there is little interest in new lock S&Ws or lower cost Taurus/Charter/etc, so they are rarely stocked.
