New Ruger pocket .380 just announced

I checked one out at my local Bass Pro yesterday. $379. Much as I like the concept, I know I would just not be comfortable carrying essentially a single action pistol in my pocket without a manual thumb safety. That's just me.

I will hold out hope for S&W to match it with a higher capacity version of my Bodyguard in the same size gun.

I would feel better with the thumb safety also.

This first version is a 48 state sales version. On Ruger's spec sheet it lists the pistol as not available for sale in CA or MA. Perhaps a version suitable for sale there will come down the pike in time.

On DA or "safe action" semi auto's I find that a proper holster negates any reason for a manual thumb safety. On a subcompact semi auto that thumb safety becomes a serious liability for quick manipulation, as would likely be necessary in a serious use affair.

I have always felt that as long as the gun is in the holster, a safety does not matter.
It's when you put your hand on it to pull it out for the draw that I prefer to have a safety to pop off as I start to align the sights.

Test drive

Today I put the first 72 rounds ball ammo downrange, no failures but two times the slide didn't lock back on empty 10 round mag. the 12 round mag locked back.
Tried 7 different brands of ammo in one magazine with no problem which builds confidence for me.
Pretty snappy, fits in my LCP pocket and IWB holsters.
Running low on 380 so I couldn't shoot more rounds.
Range had 380 @ $46 a box of PPU but I declined.
FYI
Regards
Mike
