I just came back from the range were I fired my new 22A. I must say that I was very happy with the accuracy but the operation left me concerned. I fired over 120 rounds and had quite a few FTEs, stove pipes, and failure to loads. I did not keep track but I would guess 10 or more. I was using American Eagle 38 grain ammo. Is this normal with this type of gun or should I be thinking of sending it in for some work? I plan to try some different ammo this weekend. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Vic

Let it break in a bit. Mine has gotten better with age.

As always be sure it's cleaned and lubed

I had mine out yesterday and am also please with the accuracy. I find I get less stovepipes, etc. when I don't go with a full magazine. I usually load just 8 or 9 rounds and things go much better.

I just purchased a 22A myself and ran 200 rounds of 36gr mini-mags through it yesterday without problems.

Can someone help me with the lubrication points shown in the manual. It is not clear to me with the crappy pictures in the manual what lube points 3 and 4 are pointing to and there is no text that refers to the lubrication points.

Second trip to the range

I just returned from the range and my S&W 22A was flawless. I took your advice and cleaned and lubed it. I fired CCI Mini Mags and Remington Thunderbolts with only to fail to fires. Over 200 rounds and no issues. Thanks for your help. :)

I just bought a 22A recently as well for $199 at Cabelas. I was very impressed with the accuracy first time out as well. I didn't have ant malfunctions at all using Federal Auto-match from Wal-Mart.

I've got a 22A and it seems that they run better once they are "broken in".
Another thing I have found with .22s in general is to try small lots of ammo to find what works best and stick with it.

Mine runs best with mini mags, stingers, Federal of any type, and Green Tag. Mine runs OK with the American Eagle.

Looks like points 1 and 2 are along the sides, near the breech..where the slide moves along the frame.

If you lock the slide back, and hold the gun out in front of you, looking UP into the magazine port, the bottom of the slide is where points 3 and 4 are...right where it meets the frame.

A drop of REM oil or your lube of choice oughta do it.

I picked up a 22A and was pleasantly surprised at the accuracy. I had only owned Rugers in the past and sold them. I did not expect the 22A to shoot as good but I think it shoots better and that's with cheap ammo. I am pleased for sure.

I just ordered mine from centerfiresystems.com on Friday, counting the days for it to come in! By the way. . .they're on sale there for $189!

I used Federal Bulk right off the bat and didn't have any problems. You may just need a break in period with the magnum 22lrs to loosen the spring up.
