Let me start by saying I'm a novice. Hadn't shot a handgun for many years. Took the Basic Pistol Course, shot my Hi-Point 9C a few times, and bought a Shield 9.

Today was my first time at the range with the Shield. Shot 50 rounds of Lawman 115 gr FMJ with no issues. Next was 70 rounds of WWB 115 gr FMJ with one FTE halfway through the 70rounds. Casing was stuck in the ejector (sorry no pic).

I was a little surprised at the first shot. The recoil was a little more than I expected. After the first shot I tightened my grip and was very comfortable. The tightest grouping seemed to be left and a little low of the center target at 7-10 yards. I used both magazines, and had no issues with either. Even the short magazine was comfortable to me, and I didn't notice any difference in the accuracy. A dangling pinky finger didn't really bother me at all.

Overall very happy with my choice, and can't wait to get back to the range to get some more time with my Shield!

Glad you're having a good time with it. A good, firm grip is important and the FTE was probably an unintentional relaxation of your grip. As for shooting left, check your trigger pull mechanics to ensure you're pressing smoothly and straight back.

Thanks for the advice bob98366. I could see my grip may have gotten lazy. My shots all seemed to go left of target, but they were grouped pretty well. I'll work on the trigger pull.

In a way, I'm kind of glad I had the FTE. I was nervous of something happening, but it was really an easy issue to deal with.

I have a shield 9 mm and it also shoots a pattern to the left maybe its just me.

This might help your shot placement.

From the chart, looks like a trigger finger issue. Guess I'll concentrate on that next trip to the range. Overall though I wasn't displeased; don't think I'll ever be a competitive shooter.

Thanks for your comments.

I also need a really firm grip on my Shield9 compared to my full size 9's. Don't wait to get to the range, dry fire the heck out of it.

I put some Talon rubber grips on my Shield and the next trip to the range was much improved.

I also had CC in mind also when I bought my Shield. Just want to get a lot of practice in before carrying.

That Speer Lawman is loaded pretty hot IIRC. Great practice rounds for SD practice. Congrats on a fine pistol!
