So I've been so impressed with my m&p rifles that when the time came to get my girlfriend her own pistol I knew it was going to be an m&p. I did a little research, and a LOT of searching, and finally a friend that worked at a big name store called me and said they had 2 shields in. So I put one on layaway over the phone right there. Lucky because the other sold that day and people were still coming in. Anyway, I got it, added a girlish flair to it, and it's her birthday present. So my question is, how do I know if it has the "new trigger"? I don't have any other m&p pistols so I can't compare it. Also any other known issues or things that will benefit her would be greatly appreciated. She's not at all new to shooting, just wondering about the Shield itself. I'll be getting one in .40 when I get my hands on one, but all they had was the 9s.

So I present to you.... The Lady Shield

Congrats on getting the shield! I hadn't thought about colorizing the grips. Nice work!
All Shields have the 'new' trigger.
It was introduced in the Shield. It's actually still questionable whether any of the others actually have the new trigger yet.

Thanks for the info. Makes my decision of a 45c or Shield for myself a little easier. Does anyone know how to tell a "new" trigger from old in the full sizes?

It's a Hogue Handall Jr. Grip Sleeve. I've got 2 Shields. My wife bought me one at S/W in Wasilla for my birthday and I bought one from a private seller the same day! LOL!

Lucky day! I'm really liking it. Well ergonomics and feel anyway, haven't shot it yet. But if it shoots as good as it feels, I'll be getting a .40. Hey I heard there's a place there in the valley that does DuraCoat? Would you happen to know where?

It's paint. A paint pen actually. I did my xd and 15-22 and it works great. Lot of reviews said they hold up great with cleaning and cycling. I don't know about on the polymer though, couldn't find anyone that did it on poly, only slides, so we'll see there. I followed the instructions here and it all worked great. Except I wiped the excess, but let the paint dry a lot than went over the lettering with q-tips and carb cleaner and it worked a lot better for me. Ymmv

I know that "7.62 Precision" in Anchorage does, but I'm not sure in the valley. I took my shields to Rabbit Creek Rifle Range and I love them! I think the stock trigger is better than my M&P 9mmFS or my M&P 9mm Compact and more accurate at 10 yards and closer IMO.

[making sure it's empty of course...]
On your GF's Shield, Cycle the slide, pull the trigger and KEEP it depressed, Cycle the slide again while keeping the trigger depressed, THEN slowly release the trigger. Within a fraction of an inch (1/8"?), you will both Feel and Hear the trigger reset.

If you can feel and hear the short reset with other M&Ps, it has the 'new' trigger.

There are several 'New Trigger' threads still on the 1st 2 or 3 pages. Here are the two newest.

Nice color job. I'll bet she loves it and appreciates your work. Hope it works well for her.

Great job!! I'm having a hell of a time finding a Shield. Have heard that S&W is running some type of promotional thing where you get a "code" or something and are able to order one. My LGS said he had a customer come up with TWO that way but wasn't sure how it worked. Other than that, he's unable to get any Shields.

Thanks guys. Ya I gave it to her early because I'll be gone for her bday. I had been hinting at a "lady Wesson" which she hates, so when she opened the box and saw a gun case she was less than enthused. When she opened it, she changed completely. She hates revolvers so it was a pleasant surprise.

Thanks for the info on the trigger too, that's good info.

And it's a shield for THE girlfriend, not shield for A girlfriend lol.
