New Shield owner!!

Hello everyone! New to the forum. Happy to be here!

I just got a new 9mm Shield for every day carry. I decided on the Shield after trying out the Walther PPS and Beretta PX4 Storm subcompact (both 9mm). The Shield has a much better trigger than PPS, and was much more compact than the PX4 (slimmer). The single action trigger of the PX4 was nice. But the double action first pull on the PX4 is lonnnnnnng. More importantly, for me, the Shield was much more accurate on the first shot and follow up shots.

I haven't shot with my new Shield yet. My experience was with the rental. Having a few problems reassembling my new Shield now (see my other thread). My hands are killing me now ... But I'm hoping my new Shield will be just as good as the rental! If I can get it reassembled!

Happy to join the S&W family. I also own a Glock 19, Walther PPQ 40, Ruger SR22, and an AR15.

Welcome from Jacksonville, Fl. This is a great forum with great people. I am only a few months into having a Shield 40. I picked mine up in February. This forum has been a tremendous help.

Welcome to the forum. I love my Shield 40. Trouble free from the first day (purchased February 2013) with about 250 rounds at the range. No mag issue here...I think they may have applied the fix before my build date.

I have the Shield 40 and put 100 rounds through it. Not one issue.
I do prefer the extended magazine over the shorter one for comfort and control. When I do carry, this is the one I'll have tucked in my holster

I think you will really enjoy your new shield 9. The shield 9 has become my favorite all around handgun while my 9mm Sig 229R just never gets used anymore. Concealed carry is the shields strong point but it also just great handgun. Enjoy yours

New to the forum also. Just ordered my shield in 9mm and looking forward to using it for daily carry. My .45 is a bit bulky for concealment. I hope the shield lives up to all the positive comments I've seen.

Shield is indeed awesome. I must admit that I was always biased against SW pistols as I thought they were kinda boring and average, having shot a few before purchasing my first pistol, the G19. I stand corrected because I'm loving the Shield now!

I have a few guns and the Shield is my favorite right now the only thing I really don't like is the trigger, would like to reduce the pull to 4 to 5 pounds and get rid of the gritty metal on metal feel. Both my Shield and M&P .45 had the same gritty feel.

For carry, the Shield is awesome. I have a pretty small frame 5'8" 155 and the Shield is so comfortable I forget it is there-- have fallen asleep at the computer with the Shield on it is so comfortable.

Check out youtube if you are having assembly problems. It is the best source for info like that (for me).

I have several S&W revolvers and had been a 1911 carrying fan for many years as an LE. Now that I am retired, I carry either my M&P 340 loaded with 135gr Gold Dots or my 9mm Shield. I really like that little gun. I have had no issues with it. it is comfortable to carry and accurate.

Thanks! The assembly problem is solved. Or somewhat anyway. Apparently, the spring on my Shield has to be set with one particular side up. So I rotated the spring about 180 degrees, and was able to pull the slide all the way back to lock the slide lock.

Welcome, and glad you got it fixed. Bought a Shield 9 last year, but when I got it home from the store, I decided it would be for the girlfriend, so I picked up a .40 also put about 100 rds through it so far and I'm really impressed with it. Recoil isn't as bad as I was expecting either.

My new Shield has the same problem. New, out of the box, I was unable to pull the slide back enough to lock the slide stop. Also when reinstalling the recoil spring assembly into the bottom of the barrell, sometimes the spring just doesn't compress. The gun shoots fine, but it's like the spring binds on the rod when in a certain position.

Sounds like a Apex trigger kit would be perfect for your likings.
I installed one and its supposed to around a 5 pound pull but I would say mine is more like a 4 to 5 pound pull. It definitely cleaned it up to.

Looks like a few folks have this issue. I wonder if SW is aware of this. Maybe we need new springs?
