The US Marine Corps has announced that they are developing
a new electrical pulse weapon capable of rendering an enemy
unconscious for several minutes using "nanosecond electrical pulses" -- this is not, however, your usual stun gun (where the effects wear off as soon as the electrical current is discontinued) rather, it is designed to provide prolonged incapacitation.

A nanosecond electrical pulse exposes the target to a very high level of electric shock but for a very short duration (as little as 1 billionith of a second) which renders the target unconscious without causing permanent injury.

Operational uses may include clearing rooms/buildings, patrols/convoys when use of non-lethal force is needed,
crowd control, detainee operations, checkpoint protection.

Weapons utilizing the technology being developed may include
small hand-held devices (similar to Tasers); a 12-ga shotgun round and a 40 mm round.

This same technology is also being studied as a possible cancer treatment (with fewer side-effects than chemotherapy or radiation) -- (NEP's with longer discharge times can be used to bombard cancer cells and rupture their membranes).

Engineer troops can go to 'Sapper School" ( a very intense and rigorous course) and earn a "Sapper" tab --------------------

I will venture that troops trained to use these new NEP weapons may earn a "Zapper" tab:D:D:D

A good friend of mine in AF Intelligence had access to something like this when he was recently stationed in the sandbox dealing with BGs. It was called a car battery ... but that's classified info. ;)

Seriously though, if this type of device could be utilized by our troops AND possibly be used to fight cancer, well that would be an amazing invention.

Anyone recall Tom Corbett, Space Cadet, from radio and maybe TV in the 1950's? He used a "para-lo" (sp?) ray gun that stunned or paralyzed.

I got a toy version from a cereal company. It puffed vapor spurts from flour. Looks like the real thing is on the way.

After they get this ironed out we need wonder woman`s golden lasso she puts around you to make you tell the truth! Trouble is she would slap my head off if she put it around me!

Bernie you can buy those things at G&H Feed in Gueydan-they call them cattle prods down here ;)

I guess we need something new now that TA-312's are out of the inventory.... You old guys remember those, right?

...capable of rendering an enemy
unconscious for several minutes ...

Had they bothered to consult me, I could have saved them tons of research money by the simple expedient of providing a list of not very motivational speakers, sales manglers, and numerous others whose inane prattling I've suffered over the years, who can render a group of otherwise normal people into drooling, comatose narcoleptics in mere minutes...

Sounds like *they* are finally catching up to Tesla --- About time!

Now if we can culture sensitivity in our enemies perhaps they will use non-lethal IEDs on our troops and hang gliders on our buildings!
This kind of concern for the jihadist will cost us more lives.Let God sort 'em out!

My guess is the crowd control they are discussing is domestic in nature....should the day ever come. I'm thinking that is the primary role of this weapon.
