I was at the local peddlers shop yesterday and ran across a new set of factory grips....they were removed from a NIB 66 that a customer ordered and he detested the wood grips....he wanted rubber grips...of course the shop did everything to accommodate him....these grips had been sitting in the back room for several years....I was looking for some Hogue Batam grips (which they did not have, nor could they locate for me), but the owner ever so kindly asked if if would mind some factory style wood grips....I almost fell over when he showed these to me....I got them for a steal....I almost want to pull them off and stick them somewhere safe (lest they get dinged up).....I just love this style of grip....and the Factory Combats seem to command a high price nowadays...I couldn't be happier...I may have to go back next week and see what else he has hidden away :D

I was thinking of doing some 'custom' work to this gun, but now, with these grips, I am having second thoughts...I know that S&W did not put this style grip on a 'service' type gun, but I do love those combats.....what do ya'll think? keep the grips and carry it, or pull em off and save them for a 3" 66?

Nice looking combination. Now you have me thinking about something for my 3" 65!

Beautiful. I also have a 65 and would love to find grips like this.

Those look beautiful. Will look real good on a 3" 66. But they look good on that one also.

Those look sweet. Probably the best K frame combats Smith ever produced or commissioned, in many peoples minds.

love those shoes - if he has any more, could use a set for my 65 which came with Uncle Mike's rubber and still has em - if you tire of therm and wish to sell, I am interested
thanks

afraid to carry it

....well guys....After admiring them for a day, and getting some glamor shots, I have removed the combats. I am just too afraid that I will ding them up and ruin their looks with daily carry....my 657 has suffered this fate (no too terribly)...I know, I know that they were meant to be used and loved, but it falls into the realm of shooting a NIB gun....I pulled them off, carefully wrapped them up and sealed them in a bag with desiccant...now I just have to figure out an acceptable substitute....any ideas?

also, My N frame set has some carry wear (clear coat coming off) and some minor dings....anyone have a good grip re-finisher on the board? I would attempt it myself on a lesser set of grips, but these are just great.

and as for the substitute pair....they have to be be concealable and comfortably handle some hot 158 gr soft points (running like 1600 fps, maybe more if I can figure out the recipe).

Beautiful grips. My 65-5, 3-inch currently wears Uncle Mikes Combats, which soak up recoil well, When I CC it, I usually switch to Pricision Gun Hideouts, which do not do much for recoil, but conceal well!

I did it...

I pulled the Combats off...and while wandering aimlessly at the local show, found some smooth factory grips....will take some photos later today....now I just need the Tyler T-grip to match.

Factory checkered wood panels and a T grip is a go anywhere, anytime combination. My favorite on a K frame round butt.

Smooooooth, not checkered

Factory checkered wood panels and a T grip is a go anywhere, anytime combination. My favorite on a K frame round butt.

I was looking for the factory checkered walnut grips, which the seller had (both with and without diamonds around the screw), he even had the checkered walnut grips that were thicker, he called them 'Banana Grips', they were nice, but I choose a slick as glass walnut set...like brand new...he even gave me trade in money for the Uncle Mike's rubber grips which I detested....now all I need is the Tyler Tee adapter and I'll be happy (I promise :D )

Anyone have a 3" 66 worthy of those Combats that I pulled off? ....yeah, I know, another addition to the already bloated wanted list....seriously though, got a 66 in 3"??

clean living

I'm happy for you. Its alway nice to fall into a great deal.

I must be doing something right these days....I could not buy good luck for many years....seems like things are slowly falling into place.....how could I make your life better? (no, I can't send you a free gun ;) ) but maybe I have something that can help you out...maybe I should start a karma thread...have not done that yet...I'm sure that I have some stuff that someone else could use....let me know, maybe I can help.

I have a pair of smooth S&W "banana" grips on my own 3" Model 65...but just about everything else I have wears those finger-grooved combat grips. I agree that they are just perfect, the most ergonomic grips you can put on a Smith revolver.

Congratulations on a couple of great deals!

Did it AGAIN

Must be clean living or something....same dealer let me rummage through his 'junk' box and I found a set of NEW, Never mounted Finger Groove Combat grips for my square butt L frame 681...I guess that I'll have to take them off and put them aside too :( wouldn't want to scratch these either...

anybody here re-finish grips? I have a pair of N-Frame Combats that are getting a little 'loved' and would like to see them restored to their former glory :)
