The factory rear sights suck, but they're adjustable. Is there an adjustable set out there for the M&P 22? I can leave the front sight, but would like to replace that with something better if I can.

The Guns are new and there not made in the USA . It takes time. If the gun stands up and is well liked I'm sure we will be able to get some soon from other place that sell parts as well as Walther the maker or Smith & Wesson. George

I took the sight off and the little part that needs to be a different color comes right out. I painted it a bright white, and it looks better, but it's a bit tacky and probaly won't adjust as easily. S&W can make a world of difference if they manufacture that little piece of plastic in a different color. They could even offer a bunch and sell them to M&P owners, which would negate the required sight change.

Yes! great idea! I was thinking of painting mine but I was not sure if I could get use to that much white. I seen a glock .40 down the range the other day and the guy like his rear sight that way. But I do like your idea for Smith and Wesson! I think that would make a lot of people happy campers! george

Just call Smith and Wesson customer service and ask for a replacement white dot rear sight. The fit was tight so a little filing and it slid right in. The front sight are not secured like my 9mm m&p but with a tiny screw so I just painted it a little bigger with white model paint. Now the sight picture is like my 9mm! I even put talon grips on it to make it feel the same. Great little plinker and no problems after 1000 rounds.

Are the rear sights you got from there adjustable? Most here say the sights that Smith was sending out as a replacement was fixed and gun would shoot 4 to 8" low.. You got lucky.. You have a part number for what they sent you> Again are they adjustable? G

I replaced mine with sights purchased from Dawson Precision. They do not have an adjustable rear sight for the M&P22 (the one they list on their site for M&P pistols requires a longer front sight). The rear I used was a standard 2-dot fiber optic sight for a M&P pistol. The front was a fiber optic sight specifically for the M&P22. My pistol does not have any issues with shooting low following the installation of the new sights.

That's great info. I was just referring to the sights that Smith & Wesson had sent some people to satisfy there distaste for the sights that came with there M&P22 as far as shooting low. George

I put the rear sight from an M&P40 on the back and mine shoots low. That would mean the front sight needs to be shorter, not taller.

I may just put two drops of white nail polish on the factory rear sight.

I've just replaced my sights and have yet to shoot the gun since. I'm hoping it does not shoot low but will find out very soon. Had hoped to go shooting this morning but that thing called work got in the way. Maybe tomorrow AM (It's too hot to shoot otherwise).

I do not recommend trying to replace the front sight with a standard M&P sight. I did and it was a major pain in the you know what. I did it so the 22 would mimic my other M&Ps as much as possible. If it does shoot low, I can put the factory front sight back on.

ETA: The DP front sight is .160" tall, same as the one I installed (10-8). Should be good to go.

M&P Freak,
I think if you replaced both front and rear sights your going to be ok! I did read up on how you accomplished it.. I thing your work is going to pay off for you! I was thinking of just relieving the rear org. sight a bit in a drill press to create a dimple to accept the paint.. looks like I my need to widen the rear sight blade holder to gain enough room for it to come out the way I want it to.. If yours work out for you do you want to sell your original M&P22 rear sight? If I mess up I could correct it that way. George

If it works out you can have my factory sight.

Another option for you guys wanting dots on your sights: Daysiters Florescent Handgun Sights (scroll down a bit)

I have used these in the past with good results. I'll try to find some pictures of my Buck Mark with these installed. No drilling involved and not permanent. For $12 it's worth a try. I used the 1/16" diameter orange dots and liked them a lot.

BTW my Buck Mark now wears a red dot sight. Cannot beat that so no longer use the stick-on daysiters.

How the Buck Mark looks today:

I wish the M&P22 shot half as well as this gun does. It's amazingly accurate.

One more picture...

Dug Bucky out of the safe and put it in the range bag. Want to shoot it too while I sight-in the M&P22. The trigger on the buck mark rivals my Wilson 1911, maybe even better. Sorry about the threadjack.

But i want to keep the rear sight adjustable. That's the one thing about the M&P 22 sights that is an improvement. Is there a certain type of spraypaint that dries so it's not tacky? I let it dry for 24 hours, and it's still tacky.
