I bought this gun used on Bud's Gun Shop and the sights are not very good. They show up brighter in the pictures than they really are. What sights should I get?
I'm glad you started this thread. I just bought a used M&P 40 that's missing the white out of the front sight. I'm looking at Trijicon Tritium Night Sights because I had those on an FNS that I absolutely loved.
I have Trijicon HD sights on both my Shield and Pro Series. I really like how the big yellow dot (or orange if you want) stands out even in low light. Front sight is what you're supposed to be looking at anyway.

If you go this route get the TFX version, they cost a little more but are more durable and are chemical resistant. They also have the white outline front sight

I have Truglow TFO's on three M&P's and a Glock 31. Excellent day or night sights at a very reasonable price. much better than standard night sights IMHO as they really present a bright sight picture in most any light. I doubt you'd be disappointed.
Thanks everyone. I'll try calling S&W and see if they will send me a new front sight for free. If not, I'll go to my gun store and look at the different options.
I hope S&W treats you well. My personal choice is a black front sight and added a 10-8Performance "U" rear sight. I found it easy to install (with a sight pusher) and works well. They offer a wider rear "U" if your eyes need the help.
I guess I'm one of those who believe night sights are overrated. I've packed a gun professionally for over 20 years. I've gone through a lot of night time training and qualification shoots with and without night sights. Pointed my gun at a few bad guys over the years. I don't think night sights make much difference. I guess they are good for locating your gun on the nightstand in the middle of the night but that's about it.
