I'm wondering what you more experienced shooters are using for aftermarket sights on your Shields. I'm having problems picking up the standard issue sights with my aging eyes. At the outdoor range not a problem, but indoors it takes a bit to acquire a good sight window. I though about upgrading to the Shield Performance, but I'm a lefty and the Performance only comes with a thumb safety for R/H. Thanks in advance for any advice/tips.

I use fiber optic sights on all my M&P's including the Shields. I bought the PC model and I liked them so much now they all sport the fiber optics except my M&P 380 model. I use HIVz on a couple but prefer the TruGlo. The TruGlo are made a little better in my opinion.

I installed the Ameriglo SW-745 night sights with orange ring around the front sight on my Shield. My 73 year old eyes are very pleased with them and most of my shooting is at an indoor range.

I just bought the Trijicon HD Night Sights for the shield I just bought yesterday, the front sight is a high vis orange around the tritium for quick pickup during the day too. I have a PC .40 with the fiber optics they are very nice sights for the day time, you will have no issue seeing them.

Me too! Love them, but I'm only 68! Had them installed by XDMan (Gunsmithing. He did a great job quickly and cheap.

Did you guys take you guns to a gunsmith to have the sights put on? Did you have to do any adjustments at the range afterward?

Thanks

I have truglo on all my M&P's and I like them a lot, I got the mgw sight pusher, so I do it myself.

I usually just use a brass punch to change mine out. But on my Shield 45 I actually had to use an old sight pusher that I have had for several years to even get the sights to budge.

I've found most S&W sights to be pretty tight. Many of the older gen3 guns with stainless slides have the bottom of the carbon steel sight rusted just enough to make them a real bear to break loose. My whole sight pusher business started with a 4006 that needed the rear sight moved. When it finally did move, it sounded like a .22 going off.

+2 for the bright orange ring around the front sight. go all blacked out on the rears.

I think the Trijicon HD is the best sight out there. Great visibility for daytime and tritium for night. I like that he rear sight has small tritium dots for night time but are dark in lighted conditions. This allows me to easily pick up the front sight quickly. I don't like the Hi Viz rear sights. I installed myself using the Maryland Gun Works Shield sight tool. Easy!

I had night sights installed on my Shield 40, and I have a PC Shield 9 that came with fiber optic sights. I just got a Shield 45, and the sights on it are the white dot ones that came on it. I found that the night sights and fiber optic sights are fine outdoors, but indoors I cannot see them, and the white dot sights are fine. I too am aging (69)!

You should try the Ameriglo SW-745 sights. They have white outlines around the rear sights and an orange outline around the front sight.

i did use a gunsmith (sent him the slide). When I got it back 3 days later the sights looked great, and I took it to the range that same day and it shot straight to point of aim. I recommend it.

Who makes sights with several front sight height choices for vertical elevation control?
