I went out to my LGS and they had a new Smith and Wesson Equalizer. The model they had was with the thumb safety. The price was right so it came home with me. I started doing a closer inspection and more in-depth function test before I tore it down to clean it. I tried to do a reset test on it. I dry fired it and held the trigger back while functioning the slide. when I released the trigger I couldn't hear or feel any click like I can with my 9mm EZ. When I pulled the trigger again there was no hammer fall. I field stripped it and cleaned it. Once it was all back together, I tried the reset, again nothing. I called the LSG and will take it back to the store to have their gunsmith look at it. I hope it is something simple and doesn't have to go back to Smith. Just a couple of notes on my first impressions. I like the new texture on the grip it is more aggressive than what is on my 9mm EZ. This is slim grip for a double stack firearm. My wife has small hands and actually likes it better than the EZ. I have fairly large hands and it fits me really well. The 10 round magazine is a little short and my pinky is about half on and half off. The 13 round mag is just right and the 15 round mag is a little long.

If you dry fire the gun and rack the slide without holding the trigger back does the hammer fall?

Can you tell if the hammer is cocked and is failing to fall or did it not catch on the sear and follow the slide back?

If the hammer is not cocked you could try yanking the slide back as hard as you can or if the shop you bought it from has a range try firing it.

Sometimes guns work differently when you fire them instead of cycling them by hand.

When it was new the slide on my P365 XL was nearly impossible to rack when I was holding the trigger back to check the reset. I am guessing it took about 4 times the force as it did when I was not holding the trigger back. My smaller P365 didn't have this issue. I was convinced the gun could not possibly work except as a single shot but decided to try shooting it anyways so I could complain with greater accuracy when I called Sig to send it back. To my surprise the gun worked fine and now has over 1000 rounds through it without a single failure. The slide is still harder to rack with the trigger back but not nearly as stiff as it was when new.

Dave: This gun is just strange. Part of the time while holding the trigger back the hammer follows the slide, part of the time the hammer doesn't follow the slide and the trigger will click like it reset but will not dry fire, and part of the time it works just fine. The gun does work fine if I don't hold the trigger back.
