I am new to CC. I have been shooting for years and have recently been put in a situation at work where I will be working in some very compromised areas. A little back-round. I am a maintenance Tech for a property management company. I will be working in the normal jeans and a long sleeve service type shirt. I keep my shirt tucked in at all times and do not wear baggy jeans.
The 3 options that I have right now to carry are: a 686+, a sigma 40, or a keltec p11. I am also in the market for a body guard.
Now in MN I do not have to conceal but would rather as I do not want to advertise and ask for trouble.

Is the 686+ a snubbie? I have a 638 snubbie and it fits nicely in a pants pocket. I am also considering a P-11 for the same reason.
 
I would probably go with the P-11 given the way you say you dress. Many LEO's around here carry Kel-Tecs for a BUG. And 10+1 is pretty good for a pocket pistol.
 
I just picked up the P-11 for that reason, but I guess what I am acccually looking for are some options of how to carry and what to carry it in.

For discrete carry in any environment I like a fanny pack. Mine has tear-open velcro closures that allow very fast access to the hardware. Cell phone, checkbook, flashlight, whatever ride with you everywhere, and no one ever thinks twice about a maintenance guy with a fanny pack and a few tools sticking out of his pockets.

Depending on what you're doing and just how bad your area, you might want to get a vest. I wore one daily on the job, and still do. www.galls.com is a good source. As of late, I attach a back up gun to the side of the panel carrier up under my left arm. It keeps it both snug and out of the way.

Anyway, does your company give you a logo jacket? 4imprint.com and many other companies turn these out. Easy way to conceal things and still look professional. I wasn't on the maint. end of things, so I wore sport coats, but a logo jacket would work much the same and allow OWB or IWB (with a tucked shirt) carry.

Do you have to wear jeans or can you wear khakis or other work type pants? I ask since jeans often have tighter pockets. The Royal Robbins company makes pants with all sorts of pockets for outdoor use. The ones I wear have reinforced knees. The pockets in them are spacious enough to accomodate a P11 is carried as a pocket gun. (I used to carry the roughly the same size but heavier Glock 27 as a pocket gun.)

You could also get an ankle holster - Galco or Renegade make nice ones. My slum lord associate carried a .38 in an inexpensive ankle rig for a time before just switching back to pocket carry.

Watch your Kel Tec if you sweat on it. The slides and barrels tend to rust easily.

Uncle Mikes or Desantis make decent pocket holsters, or you can just make one out of cardboard and duct tape as my friend did (and as I do at times).
 
I'm in basically the same racket Pete, with the same troubles. Open carry is "legal" but it will tend to make the more sensitive types you come in contact with tighten up so bad when they cut a fart, only a dog will be able to hear it! Best bet is as low a profile as possible. With ankle rigs, pocket rigs and tuckable IWB models being in the forefront. I even rigged a cheap ballistic nylon holster in one corner of my tool bag. The answer is yes, you can do it daily and go undetected. I have for 5 years come March!
 
If your bosses don't care, start wearing your shirt untucked. To look more professional, take them to a tailor and have him square cut the bottom and hem it so that it looks like a shirt meant to be worn outside the pants. That's how my work uniform is worn.

If not, you have received good advice already.
 
+1 what Wyatt said, then appendix carry a .357 snub with an internal or bobbed hammer. Put a second gun in the weakside front pocket for an ambidextrous NYR.
 
As for pants, Carhartt or Dickies carpenter pants work well, as they fit more loosely in the leg, therefore pocket carry is easy.
 
I agree with the Carhartt or Dickies having more room, especially if you go commando.
 
I worked lead abatement is very bad neighborhoods for a few years. My solution was to attach a holster inside one of the pockets of my tool belt. I carried an old M1934 Beretta with no one but my boss being the wiser.
 
I really appriciate all the help guys. I think I am going to try the mtec. I don't think that I can really do the ankle rigs as I wear 8" tall redwings. I do not have to wear jeans but do prefer them how ever I am only at that property 1 or 2 days a weeks and could wear different pants on those days. Again that you all

I absolutely recommend that you go concealed. While open carry may be legal, it also makes you the first and primary target to the BG creeping up unnoticed while you are attending to your work.

You have gotten some good advice from other about what may work well. Once you find what fits your lfestyle, comfort-level and your firearm; be sure to practice drawing from it so it becomes second nature.
