i recently traded with a friend and picked up a model 45,"post office"revolver.i was not firmiliar with the model 45 but am very happy to have been able to get it.the 45 no dash has a 4 in. barrell,98%,in box,blue finish,fixed sights,diamond magna's,serial # c 4297xx,all matching numbers,it is as nice as could be.s&w catalog says 1960.i don't know how many were made but i know they are a rare model.if anyone has more info on the model 45 i would be interested in learning.thanks curt.

Curt, Can you post some pictures of the gun and the box. Several different boxes are known as used for these model 45s, some were labeled as a Model 10 with the 10 crossed out and 45 crayoned over the 10. Others had a label saying Model 45. Your serial number is in the range of guns actually shipped to the US Post Office Dep't. Is the back strap stamped " PO Dept ?" Ed.
 
i am still unable to post pictures but when i am finally able to watch out because i have alot i want to share.my model 45 is not marked on backstrap,just says model 45 or crane.does anyone know how many were actually made?
