Hello,
Just picked up this new to me 28-2, pinned and recessed Highway Patrolman, six in barrel. Finish is in pretty good shape overall, small bit of holster wear at the muzzle, faint turn line, bore is sharp, crisp and shiny. Serial number N567xxx puts it at 1979. Paid 8 bones for it - wanted it and didn't want it to get away. Not sure how I did - I know prices have skyrocketd on HP's lately.

Congrats on a keeper. I like it. Price sounds fair for today's market. Only thing I would change is the grips; to football targets. The 6 inch guns don't balance well for me with the smaller service grips.

I agree Fish - know where I can get any and not spend an arm and a leg on a pair? I have a few local places that might have something.

Ok - so I took a quick look in some better light and I'm digging the matte blue finish. Kind of a no nonsense, business only affair type of thing.

Good news: looks like the side plate has never been off.

Bad news: grip screw is a little mangled. Took the grips off and they aren't original to this gun.

Good news: my OCD won't kick in when I replace them with target stocks of some sort or maybe some Herrett's stocks. Also, if you have SN 570635, I have your stocks lol!

Will post some better pics tomorrow!

I bought my no dash from 1960 in around 2010. Was $475 shipped. Came with Goodyears. It was the purchase that started all the Smiths. Bob

I paid $140 for my 6"-OK, it was in 1981!!. Herrett's on it for shooting. Pachmayrs don't look that great but provide lots of shooting comfort.

The Mod. 28-2 that I am the current caretaker of with a Mod. 28 Randall.

I have the magna grips that it came with that are number to this 98% condition revolver. It shoots as good, if not better than it looks.

"Stocks were not numbered to the gun during that era, so how do you believe they are not original?"

Maybe they are. I assumed they weren't. Other than a number being on the stocks that isn't the serial number, I assumed. Maybe they are original.

I'll try to get better pics up!
