I traded into a 4506 no dash with two mags, box and papers. I spent a few hours of culling through all 4506 posts on the forum trying to figure out the variations and time frames of said variations. Long story short, I decided to trade off my M&P45. Now don't get me wrong there was nothing wrong with the M&P, it is a fine reliable firearm, it's just not my style. I found a fellow who had this 4506 and he is more of an M&P kind of guy so we traded even up. I think this big old hunk o steel is a going to be a much better fit for me. Now I just have to read up on magazine follower colors and what all that stuff means and start accumulating mags. :)

A big congratulations to you! If you miss your M&P you will easily find another but no so with the 4506. I think forum members are tired of me saying what I'm going to say again. My 4506 is my all time favorite semi auto. Timn8er already said it but mine too makes me look really good at the range!

Oh BTW, your deal saved you an extra $20 as I see yours came with Hogue rubber stocks. The OEM stocks didn't work for me and the Hogue wood seemed too fat but the Hogue rubber is perfect, at least for me. I hope they work for you too.

We carried a 4506 as our service pistol, and I was issued a new one about 6 months before I retired. It had been to the range once (50 rounds). As is customary they give you your service pistol when you retire, so mine is in the safe. I have an assortment of different mags, some have yellow followers. It is a nice pistol, and I was trained on DA/SA pistols, so that is what I mostly have. You will like it, once you learn about the safety/decocking lever. I always carried mine on fire, safe as a revolver.

True the used market is flooded with 1911s, Glocks, and M&Ps.

I plan on getting a pair of factory stocks while they are cheap and plentiful so it will actually end up costing me $20. :) then there are at least 5 new magazines and some good leather.... this thing is going to cost me a fortune. :D

I often carry a Model 39-2 carry it that way..... ?? What is that "condition" in a DA/SA pistol????

When I went to take off the grips they were stuck in place due to old dried up oils, and there was a bunch of dried crud on the innards, so for the last few days the pistol has been stewing in Ed's Red dissolving all the dried up gunk that was in lock-work. I wiped it down blew out the excess ER and made it to the range today to put it through it paces, Wow!!

This has to be the softest shooting 45 handgun I have ever fired, and on top of that it's pretty darn accurate. I kept finding myself wanting to shoot it fast because it was such a *****cat. My first groups were a bit rough but once I got a feel for the pistol 3-4" groups at 25 feet at a fairly rapid pace were easy. Function was flawless with both the orange and yellow follower magazines. I am a very happy camper.

I like the M&Ps, but I wouldn't take TWO M&Ps for my 4566.
It thinks it's a Sig 220.

I took it completely apart, those youtube vids on 3dr Gens are pretty darn handy, though I was disconcerted when they just pulled the pins and let all the parts fall out in a pile. :) I cleaned all the crud out and put a Wolf factory replacement spring kit in it, I even replaced the bent trigger play spring. I found a factory curved grip for it, I saw the curved grip in pics of old GB 4506 auctions with TEH0 serial number that a curved grip mounted, but I'll keep an eye out for the straight one too. "Teho" is Finnish and means "efficiency" or "power" I think I found a name for it, never mind I don't name my guns.
Now I just new factory magazines - and a holster - or two. :)

I have the round trigger guard version of the 4506 but the more that I see the square guard ones the more I like em. I think I need to get one before too long.
Congrats on an excellent even up trade. You got the much better deal IMO!

Excellent find and trade. I scooped up a 4566 a while back with the Hogue grips, hey just didn't do it for me. I got a set of straight back one piece factory grips. I purchased a section of the rubber material from Talon grip mad cut it to fit the checkered portion of the factory grips. It added just enough girth to the grip and made it plenty tacky for a good purchase while shooting.

Coincidentaly I had my 4506-1 "pawn shop find" at the range Saturday morning. Another 130 flawless accurate rounds down range.

I was doing 5x5x5 drills when an older fellow came over and asked what kind of gun is that. I told him what it was and he was surprised it was double action for the first shot. His experience, as a marine and LE was with a 1911.

I told him that it was not as difficult to shoot as the so-called experts and the internet would have him believe.

He said he was going to give it a try as he was looking for a small TDA retirement gun.

windummy please keep us advised when you have those grips for sale! :) Regards 18DAI
