I've been mulling over an AL listing that was close to me and was at a pretty decent price all things considered. I got my OT check yesterday and SWMBO said go for it. Who am I to argue!

Got there and looked it over, felt good, rails in good shape, locked up nicely with no untoward wear that you can tell when you can't test fire it till later.

The Hogue rubber grips are a little carry worn but serviceable. I think I will buy a new set of OEM, I see Midway has them. It has a screw rather than a pin, looks like I will need to replace the pin. I will have to look for one...

Anyways, it was advertised as having 4 mags total and some extras. Yes, it did! A Galco shoulder holster (wide shoulder strap, horizontal holster) and a Galco paddle holster with thumb break-a little loose with the 4516, but it fits my 4013TSW almost perfect. Both holsters are a little worn but serviceable-thumb breaks still function fine. And it also had a decent range carry bag for mags and other small range stuff (smallish duffel-about 14" x 10" x 6").

I think $685 out the door with background ($750 with 10% holiday off special) was a pretty good deal for me especially considering the extras. The guy at the place said he didn't know a lot about them and I don't think he knew how much the mags are worth these days...

Congrats! Very nice 4516! The no dash 4516 was the thinnest and lightest of all the 4516 models.

Mine has been very reliable and shoots like a laser. Enjoy yours! Regards 18DAI

Love my 4516 ND too. In fact, I'm expecting my new holster, belt & mag pouch for it any day. Gordon wipped together a Rhodesian holster for it so I can carry all winter.

Summer sees me carrying a Shield 45 mostly, but I miss the 4516 on my hip.

Congratulations!

Yes quikdraw67. Some of the early 4561-1 mags were laser etched "Use only in 4516-1". IIRC, they had yellow followers.

And again, IIRC, some late production 4516 no dash mags, red followers, were stamped as well to use only in the no dash. But I can't remember, for sure.

Anyways, I have or have had every variant of 4516. From the no dash to the 4516-3 made for LE orders. I have used ALL the various mags - red, yellow and black followers - in all the different 4516 variants, with no issues. At all. None.

That said, I ONLY use late production 7 round mags, with the black followers, in my 4516s when carrying them for serious purpose. And the black followers can be installed in the earlier production 7 round mags, as replacements for worn red or yellow followers. Regards 18DAI

Thats a great pistol. Years ago I remember reading Leiden's tales of undercover work with nothing to save him but a 4516 in his jeans. I would feel pretty well armed with "nothing but a 4516"

The factory grip pin is used with the Hogue grips.

Mine has a screw on each side. If it's jury rigged, hopefully it didn't damage the frame.

I have a new pin on order from Numrich, along with an outer recoil spring (no inners, I haven't found any available yet...), couple of mag followers, and mag springs.

I always like to get a new recoil spring with a purchase of a used pistol. You just never know how many rounds went down with the barrel...

ETA, found an inner at Brownells...

The Hogues use the factory pin to hold their adapter in place. That adapter has threaded holes into which the screws are, well, screwed. If you unscrew the grips, you'll see the arrangement I'm talking about.

It's always a good idea to change out the recoil spring and the magazine springs on any new to you gun.

Good info, thanks!
I'll just have a spare, never hurts and they are only a couple of bucks...
