Been a Colt bonanza for me on Gunbroker this past month. I lucked out and found this mid 30's revolver that possibly could have won some matches back in it's heyday. It came to me looking like it had been sitting in a drawer or closet for the past 50 years. Somebody saved up and loved this gun way back when. They paid for the heavy barrel and It has a King front sight with the little mirror to reflect light but the sight blade is different than I have ever seen. Looking in my King gunsight catalog from 1939 you could order several different styles that are pictured but this one is not. It does say at top that an all black with undercut blade could be ordered after listing the red and white post types that I commonly have seen. The rear sight does not say king on top or sides but have located a few online pictures of Colt OM's with the same set up. It also came with a Henshaw trigger shoe that I can not bring myself to remove. I got it for $574 which I thought is a pretty good deal and as luck would have it I found a 1937 Colt Officers Model in .22 with a King front reflector sight with red post for $629. That gun is on the way and does not have as nice of finish but will go good with this one. The gun times well had has an excellent trigger (possibly King tuned) so I am looking forward to some range time with it. The front sight blade fills the rear sight perfectly in the sight picture so I should be able to get some quarter sized groups from it. I will post a pic with the .22 when it comes for a "pair of Kings". Always very nervous buying an old Colt revolver because parts are hard to find special tools and knowledgable gunsmith are needed if somethimg is wrong, but this one is a keeper.

I feel like you have done well. Decent condition Colts, especially an Officer Model are still underrated but rarely under-priced. Nice work!

Thought I would post a picture or 2 of the pages from the King catalog. The talent they used back then to add onto fine guns of the time was just amazing. The only changes to either pre war S&W or colts that enhances them and to me makes them more valuable are that of King. Also had to include 1 picture of the beautifully checkered backstrap. Sorry about the thumbnails, I do not know how to make the pictures big. Thanks dmthomp32

I was looking at that one. Interesting combination, the front sight by King and the rear is a Roper. That Roper rear sight is not that rare on a Colt, but I have never seen one on a Smith. This is a Roper front:
