I have been wanting one of these as a personal tribute to the M56 I carried as a USAF pilot. It is a 1981 manufacture, has a very nice box, vapor paper, all paperwork, cleaning kit and screwdriver. Not perfect but very good shape with correctly numbered stocks that are perfect with sharp checkering. I'll have to get some better pictures.

I picked up one earlier this month -just a shooter not as nice as your. could you provide more info on the mod 56 you carried in service, how long they stayed in service, etc. I finished out my mil career as an Army officer but was in the USAFR in the early 90's and only ever saw 4" 15's- the one time we did go to the range we used 4" 15's

The M56 was pretty much the same as the 2" M15. It was produced from 1962-1963. It had, I understand a few cosmetic differences from the later M15-2 2" which was introduced in 1964.
Apparently most of these were for some reason destroyed by the government .
They are pretty rare today.

That's correct. The biggest difference is the rear sight was smooth on the topstrap vice grooved like the M15. They were specially ordered for the USAF, used by aircrew and maybe OSI, and then almost all were destroyed when the M9 replaced them. I carried an M56 whenever we were to follow anti-hijack protocols from when I started flying C-130s in 1987 until I went to AFSOC in 1992. Not sure when the airlift community finally retired them.

I've always thought the 2" Model 15 one of the neatest looking snubbies ever made. I have one that's been around the block by the looks of it - but is one of my favorites - and more accurate than one would think for a belly gun. Enjoy yours, and let us know how it shoots.

Thanks for your service sir! When I started my CG aviation career I was a HC-130 H model Dropmaster, then went to the HH-3F side of the house. Glad I did it as the helos were much more fun and I managed to get 27 hours in the co-pilot seat. If I had to I could probably of landed one if the pilot had a heart attack but it wouldn't look the same:).

Very nice 15 you have there! Very classy revolver with great lines IMO. Always wanted one as a big brother after I bought my 2" model 34. I just bought mine as a Christmas present. It didn't have the innards of the box but looks ANIB.

Congrats on that classic 15 and stay safe.

BTW, we are retiring to Largo Florida here in 8 years. Was stationed at the the Coast Guard Air Sta for 7 years. Maybe we can hook up when we make the move down there and get some shooting in at Kings down on 19.

Very nice looking 2" 15! Beware that 2" 15s have a reputation for acting like they were 4" guns. They are very accurate. I got mine about a year ago as a Christmas present from me to me. Came with box and papers. Mine is a 15-4 as well. Interestingly, mine does not have a pinned barrel even though the SCSW says the barrel pin was dropped with the 15-5 engineering change. I guess they used up the M15 barrels faster. Here's some pics:
