Hey guys,

While on the way home from visiting some friends, I stopped by a store along the way. While perusing the cases, I got to the last one and saw this big old Smith revolver sitting all by itself. When I saw the price tag, I couldn't resist and had to see it. Once in better light, it turned out to be a 5 screw Pre 27. It has a 6 1/2 inch barrel that has a slight taper and a partridge sight sitting on top. No rust spots at all on the gun, locks up serviceable, etc, etc. Of course I have to take this home to play with. After I got it home, took it apart, cleaned it out real well (had all kinds of dry gunk inside), it came out pretty nice.

Two questions..
The serial number is in the S1646xx range. Anyone know what that would be for a DOB?
Also, what kind of grips are these. They are some kind of Bullseye, but anyone recognize them? They'll be gone shortly, but curiosity always gets to me.

Nice gun!
Nahas and Supica's SCSW 3d. Ed. says that serial number is 1956-1957.
Those grips are aftermarkets grips, made perhaps by Sile or one of the other companies. I have several sets on hand myself, marked "Made in Italy" in the inside. Comfortable grips but common.
