I was running some errands today and decided to take the puppy with me. I went to the pet store to get some puppy food. While checking out, the young man (I think) asked me the puppy's name. I said "Hannah". Then he said "how old are they?". I looked down to make sure that I still only had one puppy and realized what was going on. Apparently, there is a new usage of "they" that I don't really understand. Something to do with "pronouns", etc.
