Its called: Hacksaw Ridge and is the story about a Medal of Honor Recipient who was a conscientous SP? objector. At first I thought it might be about Corporal Desmond T. Doss, but it aint. This one takes place in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Desmond T. Doss was in Europe--as a combat medic. I dont know who this MoHR is? but the movie is being directed by: Mel Gibson. I saw but didnt hear the trailer--but it looked good--VERY good. Im going to support the movie and Mel Gibson's "comeback." Its due out in November.

Desmond T. Doss:

He looked like a matinee idol-and certainly was handsome. Kinda reminds me of Charlton Heston.

iM leaving the above there. This movie IS about Corporal Doss. I always thought he served in Europe-but nope--in the Pacific as im sure is corrected below.:)

According to the sites on Hacksaw Ridge, it is about Desmond Doss and his bravery in the Pacific, specifically Okinawa.

As an aside, well known actor at the time Lew Ayes (star of All-Quiet on the Western Front) also was a CO and served with distinction in the Pacific.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds like one I would like to see. Saw Free State of Jones last month and thought it was worth the money seeing it was based on a true story.

Here's a link to the Medal of Honor citation. His heroism took place over several days:

Medal of Honor Recipients - World War II (Recipients A-F)

Everyone should read this. Absolutely superhuman bravery. I can only surmise that Pvt. Doss, like many soldiers in such extreme and deadly situations, had resigned himself to death and was determined to do all he could before it reached him. The fact that he survived is amazing in itself, but the courage and determination that he displayed boggles the mind.

Thanks for finding this, Dennis.

This looks like a great one! Will be looking forward to watching this. Just read the link provided, and all I can say is wow a true hero. I can't imagine the bravery it takes to go unarmed into conflict with no means of protecting yourself. A man like this deserves for his story to be told.

I didnt find out how wrong I was till this morning. I always thought he was in Europe--but nope.:)

BTW Another WWII movie is also being released in November--which is the one about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. Nicholas Cage will be portraying Capt. McVay.

I am going to skip that one. An absolute horrible ordeal for those men. It was bad enough reading about it.

I may or may not skip it. Im thinking of comparing it with: Mission of the Shark, and see how they compare? Mission-was also a made for tv movie--so certain liberties they take in movies-will have to be discounted.

Oh and, there's a Jaws connection. Not only the part of sharks. Robert Shaw's the Orca's captains character connection.
