New York Bill Would Require Gun Registration

Sad how NY City politics control the state. In any event I believe the NY State Senate is controlled by Republicans. Hence it will probably get shelved and eventually scrapped.

Time to start writing.....if this passes here it will spread all over.......

U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance

Thing I find funny is the guy who shot the Congresswoman had the Gov'ts
approval to buy his Glock 19, he purchased it legally, now we got all these jerks running around trying to pass more restrictive legislation, to stop WHAT? More Gov't approved gunsales to nutty folks??

Not that I think they're planin to confiscate everyone's guns, but if they were, this would be the way it would start.

Under the measure, gun owners would be required to provide the serial number of each firearm owned, in addition to their name, address, phone number, and the location where the firearm will be located when not in use.

Just sayin.

I left a good job in TX back in the 60's due to restrictive gun laws and would leave LA if they become restrictive. My gun rights and hobby means a lot to me and relocation is easier than fighting the system and a lot more satisifying.

They already have full blown registration on handguns in NY. NYC has registration on handguns and long arms.

I am glad I left a long time ago. I will never move to an anti gun state again.

Gun registration here is a moot point, no worries. My guns will be in Kentucky tomorrow at my brothers house.
Or maybe in Orlando ;)

Same thing I've been thinking, Ladder13. Move 'em out of the state and secure them somewhere else.

For those curious about the actual bill, it can be found here: S2994-2011 - NY Senate Open Legislation - Provides for the registration of firearms by the owner thereof at the county clerks office of the county where the owner resides, except in New York City - New York State Senate

It has been referred to the codes committee three years running (four counting this time around), but don't let "it hasn't passed before" turn into apathy. Make some calls, write some letters.

Wouldn't the law technically require you to register them, pay the fee, and then advise them they are stored in Kentucky, or Florida? Besides what good is a gun if you keep it 1800 miles away?

Good question. NY requires you to "surrender" your license, not guns, when moving out of State. So I would advise them that "I moved" ;) They're too laid back where I live to bother following through. The house is in my wifes name, and she pays the taxes.
I only plan on being here a couple more years at best, looking to relocate to western NC near the Great Smokies.
Besides, all of the above, I don't think the law has much of a chance. It's been brought up 3 times already, and the NY Republican Senate keeps shelving it.

No suprise...

..in fact, the only suprise to me is that it took so long to occur. I don't blame the politicians (although they have a hand up to the arm pit in it) as much as I do the people in New York for putting up with it. In the end, it has to be the people in New York to make like the Egyptians on this issue. I'll bet many could care less.
As for Texas, I would like to see that attempted here. I would like to see ANYONE TRY to force this on us. I seem to recall reading something about some guy named Santa Anna........

Sometimes I wonder if the U.S. is really two different countries. On the W. coast we have the peoples republik of Mexifornia. and in the NE and upper mid west we have some other states that act like a peoples' republik. In between we have a bunch of states with more or less reasonable gun laws, and a more common-sense approach to leglislation.

But it's an outrage that we must live under such unconstitutional rules.

This bill is just another grandstanding example by a politician.

His stated purpose is to "better track illegal guns....."

Uh, who is going to register an "illegal gun"? By definition, all "unregistered" guns would be illegal, but the only ones that could be "tracked" would be the "legal" registered guns.

Is NYS Senator Eric Adams that stupid, or does he just think his constituents are that stupid?
