New York shooting pistol has been sighted

The New York shooting pistol has been imaged for us, putting to rest foolish talk (repeated on this forum) of it being a WW2 bolt action pistol:

Agree. It was very apparent from the video that it was neither the out-of-production Welrod nor the current version made by B&T, called the Station SIX.

Both of those require a quarter-turn twist, then a rearward pull of the bolt to eject the spent case, followed by a push forward to chamber the next round, then a reverse-direction quarter turn twist to lock the bolt in firing position with the new cartridge.

It was clearly apparent from the unedited video that the shooter was pulling the slide all the way back and then letting it fly forward under spring pressure, without any forward push.

By definition, therefore, it could not have been a Welrod or a Station SIX. I do not know what the shooter used as the video is too grainy to identify the make and model of weapon, but it should not be overlooked that the shooter may have ditched the weapon used and simply had another with him, so while it may be highly likely that what he had was what he used (assuming they have the right guy), it is not a sure thing.

It's a printed DD19.2 variant, I read they think he printed it himself.

Which makes sense as to why the gun wouldn't function, no Nielsen Device.

If I understand your post correctly, you are saying that the frame of the pistol was made with a 3D printer, and that it did not have a Nielsen Device. But, isn't the Nielsen Device part of the suppressor, not the pistol?

I assume that more reliable details about the gun and suppressor will be forthcoming from qualified sources over the next few days. It was obvious to me that it could not have been a Welrod or anything similar right from the first.

The usual TV pundits went into high gear about the evil ghost guns immediately and I am sure none of them had the slightest idea of what a ghost gun was, only that they were made on 3-D printers.

What is a DD19.2?

I'm happy to acknowledge that I'm a gunleather expert and my firearms knowledge is as a result of that over a period that began 1963. Nevertheless I watched the video carefully enough to recognized a conventional semi-auto pistol in action. So I didn't join in the guesswork that was on a now-locked post about the shooting.

Point is, my hands-on experience with what is going on with guns in the USA ceased in 2000 (no, I didn't die, I'm not a ghost writer; I moved overseas). So I have had to learn, remotely via the web, about the changes you all have wrought on American society (and to a lesser extent, the rest of the world). Silencers, bump stocks, 3-D printing of plastic gun parts, ghost guns w/out serial numbers. And a bit of recent research turns up companies that make their own versions of Glock slides, Glock frames, Glock internal parts.

And I have to ask -- to what end? In my well-aged naivete, I would just buy a Glock and shoot it as it came equipped. Better sights? Sure, why not, as accessories to the standard pistol. But a non-Glock brand slide so that the sights will fit? Pass.

Does it matter?
It was a bullet that came out of a brass shell into the guy and killed him.
The gun used to strike the primer is irrelevant.

It absolutely doesn't matter the weapon used. Murder is murder.

However, the gun grabbers will pounce on it to push for more gun restrictions. We in the firearms community have to be ready for a defense against any attacks.

Rosewood

It looked like a Glock to me, but given the image quality, how would one know one black plastic pistol from another? It seemed obvious he had fired the gun beforehand enough to be familiar with it since he seemed adept at keeping it in action when it malfunctioned. In the bigger picture, I guess none of this stuff matters.

What puzzles me is this handsome, well educated young man, with an apparently honorable and privileged background, and potentially promising future, giving up everything he had to make an essentially meaningless statement that won't affect anyone except the victim's family, and will cause great embarrassment and infamy for himself and his own family. If his pain was the motivator, it must have been terrible. What a shame.

Mental illness. Likely the basis of his upcoming legal defense.

Cold blooded murder is mental illness anyway you look at it. A sane person isn't going to do that. Still should be punished.

Spoiled rotten is likely the culprit. Probably never been held accountable for his actions and gets wrapped up with all of the negative rhetoric on social media.

University Marxist grooming, capitalism is the root of all evil…except his family's fortune.

Sadly, you are likely correct on both counts. But I'm guessing his family has the resources to afford the best defense attorneys and get him into a medical, rather than criminal, confinement. Just a guess.

It's funny. In the beginning, at the start a number of folks were saying that the weapon used was exotic. Then the media says its a glock, now everybody agrees its a glock.
I don't think the weapon shown in the actual shooting looks like a glock, but then, I don't believe what I'm told to believe by the media. Notice how the narrative is changing?

BTW, isn't strange that we're told so much about the CEO shooter, but we're told so little about Trump's shooter. Strange...

Why can't we stop talking about all of the stupid conjecture by "them", the media, NYPD, various "experts" (that didn't know anything!) etc. Simply LOOK AT THE PHOTO attached to Red Nichols post "The New York Shooting Pistol has Been Sighted", at the very beginning of this thread.

If you look closely it should be very obvious that the pistol was a Glock! Probably a Model 17, with a threaded barrel added. You may have to pull it into a photo program and blow it up as I did.

All the guessing was mostly plain stupid and non-sensical, especially all the BS about being 3-D printed. A 3-D printer costs several times what a Glock 17 does, doesn't it make more sense to simply buy the gun?

All of this is directed at the media and so-called "experts" that were/are full of Stuff. If any of you take offense that is your problem, you chose to be offended!

If, what we are being told is true:

Do you think he bought a 3D printer JUST to make his weapon or do you think he already had a 3D printer for other stuff then decided to make make the frame?

If he has money, and doesn't care, maybe he did just buy a printer. Looking at his social media, I'm guessing he has money.

Who knows? I don't.

The news reporter's are actually comical when they talk about guns. "The gun used an "Illegal silencer that are very hard to obtain." Suppressors aren't illegal nor are they difficult o obtain as long as you give Uncle Sam his $200.00. Mine took a year, now I guess the wait is only a month or so.
