Hi All, I have just bought a 586 with 6" barrel (will have to wait 4-6 weeks on background check before getting my hands on it) I would like to now how old it is, and as I gather from search here in your great forum, it requires a book to look up the serialnumber. Will one of you guys be so nice and look up my number?

BDB23XX

Thanks a lot

Per the SCSW (Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson Third Edition) that gun should date to sometime between October 1988 and February 1989.
The 586-3 (dash 3, i.e. third engineering or production change) was introduced in 1988 so I would suspect your 586 is a dash-3.

Welcome to the FORUM! Now, that is what I'd call a wait! It should be worth it though. I have a 586 , 4" from 1983, and a 686-3, 6" from 1989. What's there not like about them? Post pictures when you get it! Bob

Thanks :-) and thanks a lot for your fast reply. I didn't even now it was a third edition, nice to now. I cant wait to get to shoot with it, i have been very lucky to get a like new gun. It looks like it have only shot the test shots from the factory!
But thanks again and I will properly be back again with more questions when i get the gun :-)
