Hey guys, while I enjoy and have learned a ton from reading post, I am wondering if anyone knows of a group for woman shooters or even if anyone can recommend a website I can learn the basics and lingo of the gun world. I am having a hard time knowing exactly what the abbreviations stand for. Thanks for any advice.

You can ask for clarification on any term your unsure of. Forum members are generally happy to be helpful.

If you include your location in your profile, perhaps someone may recommend a helpful local resource.
My gun club has female instructors, if that's what your comfortable with, and the women's club, Belles and Bullets, meets there monthly.

Like bigwheelzip mentioned, just choose "Post Reply" and post your question in the "reply to thread" field and you'll probably get an answer within minutes. There are no dumb or bad questions. Middle age and old guys are almost useless (just ask my wife) and we appreciate feeling useful so we like questions.

Google search can be your friend. In the upper "toolbar" of this forum, towards the right side, is Search. Choose Search and there's a Google search option to enter the term your looking for. It can help if you enter more than just the term you're looking for. For example if your wondering what a recoil shield is put "recoil shield firearm" or "recoil shield revolver" in the search field.

I recommend making your own note page which could actually turn into many pages. Creating your own notes will seal it in your memory. Use Google keyword searches to find out answers to your own questions. For example if you are reading about handguns and someone uses the term CC, you could immediately Google firearms cc and by just scanning the results headings, you will be able to quickly see that it was probably referring to "Concealed carry". You might see someone use EDC. A quick google search of EDC firearms or edc gun will show that it stands for Everyday Daily Carry.

With search engines, use as few pertinent keywords as possible and don't use quotes unless you want to your search results to only include web pages that have the words that are quoted placed together like the appear in the quotation marks.

All computers have NotePad which will let you type, edit and reorganize your notes by Copying/Cutting and Pasting. New computers come with OneNote or you can use Microsoft Word you could organize your notes and also save useful diagrams you may find on the Internet.

To start, you might want to begin an alphabetical list of abbreviations and terms and their meanings. In addition to the alphabetized list, you could also begin with an outline such as the one below:

Ammunition
Rimfire
Centerfire
Firearms
Handguns
Revolvers
Semiautomatic
Blackpowder
Long Guns
Bolt Action
Lever Action
Semi-automatic
Fully-automatic
Blackpowder

The above outline is just a suggestion. Looking up your questions by keywords will lead you to pages that have comprehensive information that you will want to save as an Internet Favorite or Bookmark. I have found Wikipedia to be pretty accurate on firearm subjects.

There are a lot of good websites available with helpful information/blogs.

U.S. Concealed Carry Association | Self-Defense SHIELD
Active Response Training
Gun News | Gun Reviews | Gun Magazine: Personal Defense World
Personal Safety Blog – www.GrantCunningham.com
Concealed Nation – Promoting Responsible and Legal Concealed Carry
http://www.luckygunner.com/lounge/

And many more. Just hanging out on forums and following links will also be really helpful. I still have to use Google a lot for all of the lingo and terms, and I've been "doing" this for 20 years.

ADDED: My wife often feels the same way. She's into Facebook, and there are a bunch of good sites on there dedicated to women. Maybe start with S&W's own Julie Golob?

I recommend also that you acquire and read the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson by Mssrs. Supica and Nahas, the fourth edition is due out soon and available on Amazon on pre-order.
