Charlie,

Sorry to hear about this. I hope that with the surgery, you can keep up with the grand kids.

I hope that you make it to Tulsa later this year, we can commiserate about Dr visits all around.

Until then....keep up with the Dr's orders and rehab.

I joined SWHBC way back in 2000 at the ripe old age of 46. It was a triple for me. I'm still here! :D
Keep a pillow handy. If you have the urge to cough or sneeze, squeeze it to your chest. It'll help a little. The hospital gave me a baby pillow to bring home just for this.
For right now, take it easy. This is major surgery and it will take time to get over. But do keep moving to ease the soreness. Just walk around the house a bit, but stop when you get tired.
Exercise. As soon as you're up to it, start exercising. No need to become Mr. Muscle. Just enough to keep your body toned and healthy. Go easy at first and slowly build up. I started walking. At first it was a chore just to get to the end of the street and back. Today I generally do 3-4 miles a day just for the exercise. It gets the heart beating, the lungs pumping and keeps the joints moving. That's all I really need. ;)
As for diet. They will give you all kinds of info on dietary changes and eating healthy. At first you'll listen and comply. But in complete honesty, for me and every other heart attack survivor I've ever met, that lasted about 6 months. Truth is that eating a heart healthy diet sucks! Its bland and boring. I eat pretty much whatever I want. I just do so in moderation, try to avoid too much fat and never add salt to anything.
Hang in there Bubba. You'll get through this. ;)
