NH Bowling-Pin Match

Is coming up this Saturday in Chester, NH. I can hardly wait. I'll be using, in part, my S&W 629 .44 Mag revolver. My 210gr wadcutter bullet at 1200 FPS ought to work fine.

should work fine. I keep my 215 SWC around 900 fps to reduce recoil and recovery time between shots. The bullet mass will move the pin off the table without having to resort to high velocities.

I wish there were pin matches out here. I have an Austin Behlert prepped 25-5 that works like a champ. It has been round butted, ported and is so smooth. I shoot 255gr hardcast SWC at about 900fps. The few times I was able to shoot pins it moved the pins with "authority".

I always loaded a blunt nose 240 gr. lead bullet loaded to about 1000.
Did a number on pins, but keep in mind the score is the "time", so recoil slows you down.

Are you talking wad cutter or semi wad cutter? If wad cutter, and they are pure lead, 1200 is too fast and will lead - badly. If you are making your own and they are hard, you might be ok. I say might because there's a line between not hard enough and too hard that you have fall on. Too soft and they lead, too hard and bullet doesn't seal enough to prevent gasses escaping, and the bullets lead from gas cutting. Semi wad cutters face the same issues unless of course jacketed. If you're using coated bullets, then leading shouldn't be a problem.

The game is to knock pins from a table.
It's not "kill the pins".
As several experienced pin shooters have already advised, heavy bullets at moderate velocity are the best choice.

The NH pin match was well-attended. I took second place with 29 out of 30 pins. Not any deadwood, just one clean miss! All DA shooting, with no misfires. But I did take first place in stock auto class!
